Cleaning Thermomix Mixing Bowl
« on: March 24, 2012, 03:46:59 am »
My Thermomix Mixing Bowl start to have some brown stain at the bowl's 'wall', mixing knife and underneath of the mixing knife. I'm trying to use Soda Bicarbonate to clean, although the stain become lesser but not totally clean and 'shinny' as newly bought. Have anyone encounter such kind of problem or any tips to share to solve the problem?  :o

I use a magic eraser when I get a few marks on mine, cleans it up beautifully. Although I'm not sure if I should recommend them to use as they might look harmless but they are quiet abrasive. But I find they work wonderful. :)

Elise, in the EDC under General Tips in the front of the book you will find a section on cleaning for stubborn residues ie
1000 vinegar and 1/4 tsp dishwashing detergent added to the bowl  - cook for 1 hour/50o/speed 1.
Afterwards, rinse the bowl and MC out several times with clean water.

I've just made a batch of lemon cleaning concentrate in mine and that leaves the bowl nice and shiny - perhaps you could try that.

If your TMX is used a lot it will never look as good as the day you took it out of the box but either or both of these methods will help get some of the lustre back.

Elise - a magic eraser looks like this: http://www.chux.com.au/the-chux-range/chux-magic-eraser-range/

You can buy them from your supermarket typically.

Sorry I don't bother with any of that. I have two bowls and they always go in the dishwasher- I know some say you can and some say you shouldn't but I find the stains come out really well. Obviously the bowls have minor scratches etc from almost constant use, but occasionally I do the white vinegar cleaning from the EDC ie 2-3 times a year to give them a very good clean. I find the dishwasher though gets them really clean. If I have been making dough or food is caught under the blades I try to get everything out first with turbo and then I'll dismantle the blades from the bowl and clean them properly with a  toothbrush. Otherwise, I have had the bowl and blades dismantled and just put them separately into the dishwasher. Considering how much I use the TM I haven't had any problems with persistent  staining so far over 18 months use. I basically use the cycle for glassware which on my dishwasher is a 'gentle' cycle- whatever that means!

If you are using a magic eraser take care ... there have been bad stories circulating about skin damage, just make sure you wear gloves and keep your face well clear of the working area so that you don't get splashed accidentally.

My gosh that sounds scarey!!  I'd be just sticking to the white vinegar.  Works every time for me . . . . .

Can you immerse the bowl into the sink with dish washing liquid?

I immerse the bowl most days as I prefer washing by hand than the dishwasher which seems to take forever, I've never had any problems and thought it was intended to be fully submersible - I hope that's right  >:(

I just immersed it upside down as I was scared trout the throngy things in the water. Worked a treat.

TMX bowl and blades are totally immersable (is that a word lol) NOW. Back 4 or so years ago when I purchased mine I got one of the first sets of blades that were immersable. Prior to that and the TM 21 blades were not.  :)
