THE AMAZING THERMOMIX!!
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:12:26 pm »
As some of you may  know from reading a previous post, I made hot cross buns with my class the other day.  I was busily helping the grade 1/2s measure out yeast and thinking that the thermomix was the best thing ever for cooking in the class room when all of a sudden a robotic voice said "Add yeast to milk" . . . SERIOUSLY for a  my first reaction was, "OMG, it weighs, measures, stirs, chops, cooks and TALKS!!"  Yes for a split second I forgot that one of my students has cerebral palsy and can't speak and has a device called a dynovox which he and his aides use to communicate with . . . Ah well, maybe the TM41!

Lol. I bet the kids loved the TM and what it could do. They would of gone home and told their families all about the amazing TM machine :)

What fun, I'm sure the kids loved the final result.

Love the way today's teachers go beyond the call of duty - what a fun class that would have been Lelly and there is nothing like a bit of hands on experience.  What a story to tell their parents when they got home. Well done you :-*

LellyJ my sons's school won 2 Thermomixes last year and I hate to say that they really aren't using them to best advantage. One of my goals is to show them how many different ways that they can. Next term it will be ANZAC biscuits or pizzas... So many options.

Thank you all.  Yes it was a very fun day.  I cook alot with the kids, especially since getting Clancy (tmx), it's not hard to heat things, etc.  Some of them clearly haven't had the opportunity to cook much at home and the magic of it all amazes them--the looks of amazement  when they saw you could actually make your own pasta noodles for example!

Wow imagine the school winning thermomixes!  Kerryn things I have made in the classroom would incude anzac biscuits, lemonade, bread, hot cross buns obviously, pizza, sorbet (that was more for fun), lemon butter (for our fete) and scones (Nay-nays of course!)  It certainy sparks a bit of interest in tmx. Sometimes we have something like a poetry reading day or similar and we make morning tea for the parents and sometimes it works in with our current studies, for example we did a bit of work on advertising and made an ad campaign to sell our lemonade and there is a lot of science in yeast cookery.
