I just received my monthly TMX updage (April) and saw a reference to Thermomixer, an old forum friend whom we hadn't heard from for ages:
This month I’d like to highlight my extremely valued contributor Jeff Brady, who lives in Melbourne. Jeff will be known to many of you as Thermomixer from his blog (thermomix-er.blogspot.com.au) and from Forum Thermomix. He’s had his Thermomix since 2007 and has a record four recipes in my book. They are all delicious. There’s no bad time of year to eat Crumpets (page 18) but I think autumn is especially good because you can spread them with berry or fig jam that you’ve just made in your Thermomix. His Salmon Confit with Sorrel Sauce (page 109) is a fun way to get started with sous vide cooking. Try it; it’s easy! The Steamed Beef Fillet with Bone Marrow Dumplings (page 118) is a fantastic Varoma dinner party dish that you can prepare ahead of time. Quinces are just coming into season so I hope lots of people will make Jeff’s Quince Paste (page 211). As well as being smooth, glossy and delicious, quince paste makes a great gift.
I miss his posts and would love it if he were to come back to join us.

I can second that!! I'd also like to thank Thermomixer for his inspired instructions for the quince paste - made this the other day and it was an outstanding success! Who said it would last months in the fridge
Friends and family have been running off hither thither and yon with little packages tucked under their arms!!! There are some wonderful quinces in the markets at the moment so I guess I'll just have to make some more tomorrow!! (T'would be today but work kind of gets in the way . . . .
)

Thanks for posting this Cuilidh. Thermomixer looks as though he is very busy these days.
Must look up the recipe for quince paste.

Funny you both mention quince paste. I found some quinces on my tree two weeks ago and decided to make quince paste. It didn't quite turn out right though - one way or another I didn't follow the recipe exactly (an on-going problem for me!) and ended up with what was more like quince leather! I wasn't going to own up to this mess on here, but seeing as quince paste has reared its head twice thought I'd better admit my mess here. Should probably go on the "ooopppsss ......" page, but more likely to get lost on this thread, with luck.

Until I discovered Thermomixer's quince paste Sth Cape variety was a regular in the shopping trolley - a favourite with brie and crackers/fresh vegs also use it often in sweet and sour recipes. Thermomixer's wisdom is surely missed on here!!!!!

Marina, I wouldn't be on here if it weren't for Thermomixer and Judy. I owe them both a very big thank you. They held my hand as I become familiar with both the Forum and the computer. They both have given me the chance to meet some wonderful generous people through the Forum. ( you included). Although Thermomixer isn't active here or on his blog, I still pop into his Blog every day. Thankyou for posting this.
You can still use your quince paste in cooking ,( I use it in my Tagine recipe).and could probably reconstitute it with a little extra water in the TMX. Maggie Beer would have some recipes.

Marina, I received that email from TMX HO yesterday but I could do nothing with it, couldn't scroll to read it or anything, it was just the first part. I would have loved to have read about Jeff Brady, he was certainly a TMX cook before his time with all the wonderful recipes he posted and he could well have bought out a 'Dinner party cookbook for the Thermomix' with his recipes. We all loved him and his cheeky disposition is sadly missed but his legacy to us all lives on with all his postings and advice. If you get to see this posting Jeff, please pop in and say hello - you still have many friends on here who have benefitted from your help and guidance in our early days as Chookie mentioned.
If anyone wants to check out Thermomixer's recipe postings on the forum, go to mains for example and click on Started By. This will put all the names in alphabetical order so just scroll through until you come to his name to see how many recipes he posted. His mains for example start on page 21 so it is quicker to work backwards from the highest page number.

yes we sure benefited greatly by his knowledge, and chuckled at his witty humour. His recipes are restaurant quality. I reckon he'd have to have a book come out at some stage.

What a lovely thread to read. It is an honour to learn more about a forward thinking and generous innovator. Plus in JD's last post I learned a little more about how to operate the forum technically. So thanks all round, forum friends and bouquets to you, Thermomixer, if you ever read this.
At Thermofest, we were learning about trustworthy branding: your name Thermomixer certainly is that! Congratulations and thanks.

Never a truer word has been spoken. At the beginning of the forum Thermomixer and Brazen used to email each other as they were almost the only members.
Thermomixer always had a sensible answer to our problems and a lovely sense of humour. Hopefully he does pop in here occasionally and see us all say THANK YOU to him. He sure is a star.

when I first joined! His crumpet recipe is a standard in our household!
I think I was around number 500 when I joined... now we're up to 6658!!

I remember Thermomixer too. Avatar was thermomix and a dog.
Great recipes and always worked well.
Hope all is well with him.

OMG this all, sounds like a eulogy to Jeff
Would love him to pop in to say hi. He is always busy with his Melbourne foodie friends having fun. I wonder if he is still doing his vet stuff?
Jeff was certainly one of the reasons this forum is so good. He and Brazen gave it a good start and others have kept it so.

Also wish he would pop in again.. Great advice and recipes and most of al, remember his humour.. He was always there to comment or joke around and was one of the first members i remember when i joined.. I know he got busy but its a shame he cant pop back to say hi now and then 😊😊
