Organising my freezers
« on: April 13, 2012, 02:25:05 am »
I have an upright chest freezer I keep all my bulk meat in, in plastc bags labelled, thanks JD.

I have fridge freezer in the garage & a drawer freezer in the kitchen.

Any tips on how best to organise these 2, i think I need to keep pastes & sauces in the kitchen otherwise they get forgotten.

Yesterday made pizza dough, looked in the garage & I had 6 balks made already >:(, I need help.

Any tips

Thanks

I have 3 freezers too Hally.

A chest freezer out the back for all my bulk meat.
One upright is for staples. Frozen veges, ice cream, bread etc.
The other upright is filled with already made meals. That way when I am working I go to that freezer to get something out of to heat when I get home.

Hope this helps

I think the best way to organize a freezer is to pull everything out every month or two and replace them back in again. That way you get to know what's in there, and remind you what needs using. I think it's easy to forget otherwise.

You can go to organizedhome.com and download and print fridge / freezer / pantry inventory lists.
Write down what you have in each freezer, and cross it off as you take it out.

I have 3 chest freezers, and that's what I do.

Oh Hally, good luck! I try to keep like with like in different drawers of my freezers. Ie, one drawer is savoury stuff for meals (generally vegetarian savouries, as fish fingers are about the only meat that makes it into this household), one drawer for breads and school lunch goodies, one drawer for frozen fruits, juices, etc, another for frozen veges and nuts, another for milk, ice creams, cream etc.

That's the theory. Sometimes it even works.

Thanks everyone. I have just thrown it all in for the moment. Need to have the weather a bit cooler to sort them all out.

I like chest for meat, small freezer in garage for cooked food & kitchen for everything else, but not sure if thats going to work. My tubs worked well untill I started buying in bulk :)

Label and date is all I can add.  My partner constantly puts stuff into the freezer without a name or date, so it turns into defrost surprise.

So true KeiraMax. My DH specialises in doing that with chopped up herbs. It really is a lottery as to what flavour you will get.

Hi Hally

I think you have an iPad or Iphone?  So dare I say ... is there an App for that?  ;D

We have two fridge/freezers and I was going to try and get organised.  Downloaded "ifroze" and "mini fridge", but haven't got any further than that.  Let me know if you find a good fridge/freezer App.

WOW, an app, will get looking, how amazing that would be.

Even better a robot that would come & do it for me, then when you open the freezer you ask for "leg of lamb" and  up it pops.
