Construction Grade Pasta!

Looking for some advice and and experience has shown there is no better place to ask!

My son has to build a suspension bridge out of pasta ( year 12 engineering assignment ) he plans on making pasta and cutting into the shape he wants and then dryng it. We made a test batch yesterday  ( 1 eggs to 100g flour ) and it didn't really dry hard. well not like commercial pasta, obviously to build a bridge we need tough/dry pasta ...any clues or tips?

Would it dry hard if you put it in the oven on low heat for awhile?  I really don't know the answer to that one as I have never made pasta.

I had a class do this many years ago and we used bought pasta. Is that possible?

I think they are supposed to use bought pasta ....as usual my son sees a different way of doing things and would like to cut his own truss shapes out of pasta ....if we can't get it hard enough I suppose he will have no choice but to purchase commercial pasta

The problem I have had with drying pasta, it becomes really brittle.

i made fresh pasta about a few months ago that would have been perfect for his  assignment 

i dry it in the oven over night at 55d oh boy it was so hard that not even a hour of cooking did not help,in the bin it went

You could have sold it Uni, to all the students making things with it.

Deeau perhaps your son could make the trusses like they do in rooves. Using long bits only.

How do you spell the plural of roof? It doesn't look right to me.

Roofs? Rolves? Rooves? I have no idea?

Rooves. You know, I'd experiment with that pasta recipe and mix in some glue with it instead of the egg.

No, it's roofs.  Hoof is hooves but roof is roofs - crazy but true.

I was very confident answering that one Uni - that word has stuck in my memory for some reason.  Maybe I got it wrong at school and had to write it a 100 times on the blackboard - do kids still have to do that these days
