Hi From The UK
« on: April 21, 2012, 01:27:15 pm »
After (what feels like) more than a lifetime working 18 hours 7 days a week, in advertising, I retrained to qualify as a therapeutic counsellor a few years ago. It was only then that I had the time to even THINK about learning ANYTHING 'domestic'! Even our two sons were aged 8 and 10 when we adopted them and my husband, who had the far more flexible job, became the 'domestic goddess' in the family!
I can't describe how inadequate I feel facing challenges, I should have mastered in my twenties, at an age when I should be teaching my grandchildren!!! (Even using a computer to do this is akin to learning a foreign language!)
Then, after never knowing how to do anything other than throwing myself into it - usually at the deep end!, I added insult to injury and asked for a Thermomix for my 60th!!
So - please, please, please be gentle with me and try not to lose patience if I don't even understand the words you are using! You all seem SO brilliant, knowledgeable and creative - but I promise to do my best - or at least be a good example of how enthusiasm can sometimes triumph over experience!!
I'm excited and scared, but looking forward to joining you, mistree.

A very warm welcome to the forum, mistree!  I daresay quite a few of us have felt the same as you at one time or another.  What a fantastic way to celebrate your 60th!!  Once you start using your TMX you find talents you didn't realise you had!!
any problems, just post them here and you'll have any number of very friendly people coming to your aid.  Good luck and do let's know how you're doing!! :D

Hello mistree, welcome to the forum.  It is never too late to start cooking for your family and if you're keen to get stuck into it, you have certainly come to the right place.  We all ask what we think are silly questions but as is often pointed out on here, there is no such thing as a silly question.  Everyone is only too willing to answer queries and point out where we have been going wrong - you will soon see that for yourself.  I don't know if you are still working but you certainly have earnt some rest time and if that happens to be in the kitchen, then so be it.  We love being in the kitchen now that we have our TMX's and you will too, I am sure of that.

Hello and welcome, Mistree, from West Yorkshire in the UK. It was reading this forum that made my mind up to get one (even though I was over halfway through my sixties).  I've had my Thermomix nearly a year now and would not be without it. Hope you have lots of fun trying and enjoying some of lovely recipes and tips from this site.

Hi Mistree from a wet Gloucestershire.  Welcome to the forum - you are at the right place.  I am sure you will find plenty of things to make here and that you will soon be using your TMX every day for all sorts of stuff.  Nice to see another UK user on here, so hopefully the word is spreading.

Best wishes

Thank You All SO Much - You really have made me feel welcome and now I'm wondering why I was so worried about doing this! I am still working, but since all 'in surgery' counselling was suspended, I just see patients, who shouldn't be waiting for a clinical referral, at home. Must be honest, though, I'm finding it more and more difficult to drag myself out of the kitchen!
Can't wait to start learning all I can from you and the minute I feel that I can contribute something worthwhile, I will celebrate by sharing it with you!
Mistree.

Hi Mistree and welcome to the forum.

You may feel a bit overwhelmed at the start of using the TM. Soon though, you will find that the more you use it the
more wonderful meals you will be making. However, things sometimes do go wrong, like my quinch paste that turned into
toffee. It is all part of the cooking experience, don't think?

Happy cooking.

Welcome mistree. It is wonderful to have you with us. Lots of us received our machines in or near our 60's so you are certainly one of us. Trying all these wonderful recipes and communicating on the forum keeps us all very young.

Hi,
I'm another Brit from  Nottinghamshire and have to admit that I can give you some years in age. I have a love of gadgets so I have never let my age interfere with anything that I am interested in. My advice would be to start slow and simple and get some favourites under your belt. The recipes on this forum are so good. I never tire of looking through them.  What a lovely time you are going to have!
