Heating in the Thermomix

Here we go - the first of what I'm sure will be many, many questions! I was trying a Thermomix recipe but the machine never even nearly reached the correct temperature in the time stated. Should I lengthen the time until the temperature is reached, or just stick to the stated timings? Could there be something wrong with my Thermomix or have others experienced this? Mistree.

Hi Mistree as long as you are following the recipe the times and temp are correct.   You aren't the first one to ask that question so don't worry. Lot's of threads on here about it. Everyone is concerned when they first start. This happens especially during the first stages of the recipe where you are just cooking for short periods of time.

The main thing to remember is that you press the temp time EVERYTIME as it does not remember settings once it has stopped. i.e. if you are asked to cook for 3 min 100 degrees and speed 1 and after that you add something then cook again for 10 min at 100 degrees, reverse and speed 1 you HAVE to press the temp button again to set it along with your time and speed settings.

Thank you, so much, Kathryn - I feel much better now! Made some scones before and I can't believe it, but they're gorgeous!!  I'm going to try making cream again, now that you've explained everything - it's a very wonderful machine, isn't it!!! Mistree x

Mistree it all takes time to get used to how your TM works, and what is right. I found getting used to the noise that it makes took me a while to know what sounds right. My DH would often comment about the noise especially when mixing a dough for a couple of seconds to bring it together before kneading it.
Keep asking questions when ever you need too

Mistree, when I first got my TMX I was so scared of it. I had just spent $2000 as we all have and didn't want to break it. I rang my consultant a lot. After a while I became more comfortable and confident using it. Please ask as many questions as you need to. We have all been there. This forum has increased my confidence dramatically and that is because of the wonderful support I have received.

You are welcome really just ask away if you are unsure as we do mean it when we say ask for help - we have all been there one way or another.

It took me a good 6 months to get into the swing of my machine 4 and a bit years ago...  this forum was only just starting up and I couldn't cook!

Mandi, DG and Kathryn - you're all so helpful and encouraging - thank you. I have to say I have been so lucky with two very satisfying careers in my life, but I am going to bed now with a feeling of achievement I have never experienced before! Wouldn't be feeling this way without your help x

Mistree, take all the advice on board and in time you will be giving other newbies advice as well. It doesn't take long to get to know your machine, especially if you do ask questions when in doubt.  Our forum is wonderful for that and with so many experienced users here, there would be very little they do not know (if anything).
