Best way to defrost bananas?
« on: May 09, 2012, 01:22:21 pm »
A little fruit and vegie shop in my area sells frozen bananas for $2.00 per kilo, so I figured this would be a good way to buy bananas for baking. I was just wondering how best to defrost them? Should I just leave them in the fridge overnight? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ;D

Thanks!

i would take them out of the freezer, a few minutes later  cut it in 1/2 ,wait 5 to 10 minutes then peel and chop whlie still frozen
or you could place it the M/W after you have cut it in 1/2 on deforst for 2mins

or just slice them up while still frozen

are they frozen with the peel on ?
i don't need a recipe i'm italian

I put them  on the kitchen bench and they defrost really quickly oe several hours- i obviously only do that if I'm using them that day eg smoothies etc. if I need them the following day I'll defrost them in the fridge overnight and then take them out in the morning.

Really Halex!? I would never have figured that out ;)

No Uni, the nice lady who owns the shop peels them all and wraps them in glad wrap. She's got a couple of freezers full of them.
I tried putting them in the microwave but they went really watery, so I was worried they would make my cake batter really runny.

I like leaving them frozen for smoothies ;D
Do yours go watery if just left in the fridge, Merlin?

I don't think I'm going to get the chance to defrost any more bananas.... I have discovered how delicious they are eaten straight out of the freezer. Just like a banana icecream ;D
Also a lot cheaper than buying fresh bananas.
