PICNIC & TRAVELLING FOOD IDEAS
« on: May 11, 2012, 11:12:21 pm »
What are some of your favourite ideas for picnic fare?   And what about dishes that travel well on a 3-4 hour car trip . . or even longer!

GF, we picnic a lot here in Perth as we have such good weather.

I have good eskys with blocks, plus also 2 bags that keep food warm for 3-4 hours, plus a couple of flasks for hot items.

Any dip, veg sticks, edc foccacia, gerts foccacia,  quiche, zuchini muffins recipe on here, salads with dressing in another container. My green godess dressing is good. Bustermans cheese & herb scones. Chookies KFC.  My vietnameese baguettes, maddys cheese & bacon rolls,  Scrolls sweet or savoury! Spinach pizza scroll recie on here. Cyndis vegetarian sausage rolls, sausage rolls, nigellas mini meatloaves, my cheese & bacon party puffs recipe on here.

The list s endless

Hope his helps

H :)

I haven't been on a picnic for ages but the last time I did and provided food for all those there, for the meat component I took parmesan crumbed chicken tenderloins and devilled lamb cutlets both of which are nice cold.  Not TMX of course.

Drumsticks or JD's mini chicken and vegetable loaves would travel well.

I really like doing curried chicken palm pies. Make any of the chicken curry thermomix recipes - but with a thick sauce not a thin one. Then make put squares of baking paper in muffin tins, put pastry in and fill with filling top with lid. Then bake in oven and just keep in muffin tray for transportation. Easy to take out when at picnic as just lift the corners of the baking paper .

Thanks, Bickie - a great idea!  Will certainly give this one a go :D
I've been thinking of doing some cooking with the TMX with some 12 year olds . .  I think they'd enjoy doing this, too . .
