Title: Weight watchers
Post by: joynatalie on February 03, 2011, 09:33:27 am
Having packed on several kilos since acquiring my thermie (coincidence!) I signed up for weight watchers last night and need to lose 20 kgs!!! I am looking for other thermies omn the program for support and mundane point discussion , ???

I'm NOT on the program and fighting the decision.  I kind of know I SHOULD be but I also have a pathalogical hatred of all things diet related and clearly they don't work because I've been on hundreds and am now fatter than ever.  However, since I am now fatter than ever, I really ought to do something ....

In view of having to do something can I hang around here anyway ...?

A friend of mine has just joined WW online and she said some of the girls keep a blog relating to their weight loss adventures which she enjoys spending quite some time reading.

Hi Joy Natalie,

Yes, such a funny coincidence how many of us gained weight when our beloved Thermomixers joined our households.....not that we'd want to go back to life before it came though!

You have my full sympathy for having to undertake the horrible task of trying to lose weight. I have done it a few times and it is so not fun. You are on the right track with WW though. I did it a few years ago and it really helped. I haven't actually joined up this time (I got my Thermie in November so I'm right there with you) but am just doing it on my own because I remember enough from last time. I am losing the weight veeeeeery slowly but I'm ok with that coz I'm hoping it means I'm losing fat instead of just water and muscle and that the loss will be a bit more permanent. So if it's ok I'd like to hang around too  :)

I went to my first meeting last night I am not sure how helpful I will find  group thing.  I guess I do know the whole eat less move more but think I will struggle with counting points, writing everything down.  thanks for the online suggestion, Judy that might work better

Have a look at Cindi O'Meara's website. Much more TMX friendly and no points etc.

Just lots of really good , healthy food.

You can tell us your weight loss each week and what you eat. We won't charge either. You would have to be truthful though or we would jump down the phone line after you. :P :P :P :P

I did WW for a while ( a few times) and the key to remember is to go to the toilet just before you weigh in... some called it cheating, I called it "timing". Seriously though, I liked it more than the programs that provide you with food, as at least with WW you are learning the principles of eating well and are encouraged to cook it yourself! Thermie is therefore your best friend! Good luck!

Hey all thanks for the suport! I know what to eat and being a vegetarian I am really conscious of what I eat.  My problem is the portions control!!!  I eat too much! I cant wrap my head around eating 30 grams of cereal for example, I eat a bowl so in that way I guess it is good and I can l earn to adjust but it is hard

Aargh - I've bitten the bullet and signed up for WW online!  I've also calculated the points values of the pumpkin and corn soup - per serving its 2 (pro)points assuming you use 2 tablespoons of olive oil in the whole recipe.

I don't understand the point system Nik but best of luck.  100 years ago when I dabbled with the WW diet (through a friend, never joined myself) it was all calorie counting which I found easy but time consuming.  I'm usually fairly careful what I eat and would go as far as saying I know I shouldn't have had 2 servings of dessert tonight  :-)) :-))

I joined WW just before Christmas because I'd heard about their new ProPoints plan. I'm loving the plan, but I'm still not losing much weight. I've only lost 900g over 8 weeks! It's been very up & down, & I put on 900g last week even though I followed the plan & have been swimming at least 30 min a day.
It's really frustrating & I'm now beginning to think that I can't lose weight, so I need to be pleased that I'm learning to eat healthily with both WW & TMX!
I'm focussing on healthy eating & getting fit - any weight loss will be a bonus.
I find that using the online tracker is really easy to manage the points, & it's also on my iphone, so great when I'm out & about.

Ooooh, I must get it on my iphone!!  Did you measure?  It may be that you're not losing weight because you are gaining muscle.

How much do you need to lose?  If its only a little, its bound to take longer than if you need to lose a lot (I need to lose 2-3 stone).

I'm sure its much more important to focus on eating healthily and getting fit than the numbers on the scales.  I would like to be able wear a skirt in the summer without my fat little leggies rubbing together  :-)) and be able to lose the heartburn which I'm sure is related to my weight (its probably also due to my big fat babies but the weight won't help!)  ;D

Interesting you should mention heartburn Nik. I suffered heartburn during my pregnancy and for the past three years since our son was born.  I always thought it was pregnancy related.  I have lost some weight recently though and the heartburn has completely disappeared.  I haven't had it for a couple of weeks and it used to be every night.  I really didn't realise how many areas of my health were affected by being overweight.  :)

Yeah I did measure, & my waist is 2cm smaller, although I can't see any difference. I have 6 children (they were all quite large), so I do want to lose my tummy! I do have a lot to lose, about 29 kg according to WW, but I would be happy with 20 kg.
My WW day is Wed, but I jumped on the scales this morning & they've moved down!!!!! I hope they stay down for Wed.
According to my scales I lost 600g, so I'm feeling happier.

Its quite shocking really - I'm only moderately overweight but I've even woken up in the night with acid reflux a couple of times!  So YAY lose a few pounds and I will be heartburn free - thank you  ;D ;D

Yaaay, well done.  We all love our food unfortunately  ;D  I crashed my car yesterday (nobody hurt but car not drivable) and am consoling myself today with some baking - made 2 cakes and a loaf of bread already!  Alternating kitchen work with lying in bed watching programmes on baking!!!

Oh well, I hope the children enjoy the fruits of my labours!  Yesterday I made a double batch of flapjacks - 16 flapjacks in all and there are only 4 left.  Admittedly I did have a few but I think ds1 had the bulk!!

My weigh in is Monday so better keep up the diet at least until then!

Oh thank you both.  Am stiff as a board today and had a thumping headache this morning but a day of bed rest alternating with baking seems to have done the trick, and am feeling much more cheerful.

Don't know yet, when I get my car back but should have a courtesy car in the next day or so.  A teeny 2 door is going to be a right laugh ...

Hope you did some eating as well as baking - this is not the time to worry about what you are eating.    Just concentrate on feeling better and getting back your strength and your spirits.

Title: Re: Weight watchers

Don't know how long it will take - going to get onto Sewards in the morning.  Give them a sob story about having 2 disabled children, one with a blue badge, really need my own big car back as soon as they can, blah, blah, blah ....

Yes, I'll feel a bit guilty about using my children's disabilities to pull some strings (if it works) but they'll benefit just as much from having the car back as I will.

Also need to nag the insurance company about a hire car, which I'm apparently entitled to, which is separate from a courtesy car (which Seward never have available apparently ...)  At least then I'll be mobile although if I have a teeny Corsa I'm going to have to put my 6 yr old in the front as my 9 yr old is just too dippy to go in the front - he's likely to knock it out of gear while I'm driving or pull on the handbrake.  Bless him  :-))  ;D ;D

After a day in bed I do feel significantly better.  DH is looking after me well albeit from afar as he's gone back to work now.

Nik- Sorry to hear about your car crash. :(

Well done to all who joined WW!  I'm actually a WW leader. (Quickly runs for the hills! LOL!)  I"ve been on the PP plan since September last year and can say hands down that it is the most liveable weight loss plan I've ever been on.

As soon as you get a grasp on portion sizes and making sure you get the right amounts of good foods per day, the rest will come.  I do limit my bread intake to 2 slices a day (I only eat bread every 2nd or 3rd day now though) and make sure I have a different carb with every meal.

It's making sure you have the foods in the right amounts. Half of your plate should be veges.  1/4 protein and 1/4 carbohydrate.  If you can stick to that and make sure the carb and protein are a proper portion, the vege side can be bulked up to however much you like.

Bimby has helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I am able to make quick, healthy meals in a heartbeat.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away. :)
Steph.

Thanks for that Steph.  Dividing up the plate is a good way to remember what our meals should look like. It will also help me to remember that pasta and rice should be side dishes or very occasional mains.  Risotto and pasta are just too easy to prepare with the TM!  :)

I'm glad you're sounding better Nik, & I hope the car situation gets sorted quickly.

I'm so happy - I lost 1.8 this week! ;D I didn't do anything different except I didn't go swimming all week because I'm back at work!  I love the Pro Points plan & will keep going with it.

Steph, do you make many of the WW recipes in TMX? I have the Simple Cookbook & the 2011 prog book & don't know how to convert recipes, so any tips would be great. Thanks.

Wow, well done you, that's a great achievement and a brilliant incentive to keep going.

Interestingly I've had no heartburn this week so it was clearly diet related although I couldn't see what I was eating that would cause it  :-))

Never mind onwards and downwards - I really feel like getting to goal this time.

I have to admit, I feel like I"m a bad leader sometimes.  I rarely use WW recipes.  I eat butter, drink full cream milk, full cream cheese etc... I have managed to get control of my portions though.

Eat less, move more.  Limit the junk and the rest will happen.  It's all about balance.  If you have a bigger day one day, cut back the next.  I'm going to make a heap of soup for the freezer because I find it handy to have for lunch.

Sorry I can't help with the recipe side of things.  I prefer all things natural and sometimes I find they use too many sweetners and low fat options that just don't fit me.
Title: Re: Weight watchers
Post by: SoBlessed on February 14, 2011, 09:50:45 am
Steph, you sound like a great leader! I'm doing all the things that you're doing too. I find I get through my 29 ProPoints very easily because I also have full fat milk, yoghurt etc. I never use margarine or butter on bread - never have. I will use butter in a recipe if required.

The leader at our meeting was showing us some low PP snacks from the supermarket which looked interesting, but when I checked them out today I couldn't eat any of them - too many additives! One thing she showed was roasted broad beans, called fava beans, but they were made with canola oil & I don't eat that either, as I've read that it's unhealthy. I just can't bring myself to eat these things,  & know my family & I are healthier for it. I'd rather eat stuff I make, or a piece of fruit.

I've cooked a few things from the WW books (not in TMX) & I just substitute the healthy foods that I usually use. I would rather eat healthily for more ProPoints.
Title: Re: Weight watchers
Post by: Nik2WIN on February 14, 2011, 11:07:18 am
We all eat full fat milk etc too.  I really don't think its that that has made me overweight, I think its the portion sizes  ;D

I try to eat as few additives as possible and eat food as close to its natural state as I can.  I'm not particularly religious about it all but I have realised that my tolerance for additives as dropped dramatically - I feel really quite ill after a take away these days.

We all had swine flu at Christmas and I have to say although we weren't well we were nowhere near as ill as the horror stories suggested we would be and I'm convinced its because our bodies aren't working overtime to process all the cr*p that is in processed food.

I don't smoke but I do drink quite a lot :o but the nearest thing I come to processed food most of the time is Green and Blacks chocolate  ;D

Nik

P.S.  Only lost a lb this week but its still a lb less

Make sure you don't have copious amounts of water in your tummy when you have your weigh in. ;) ;D I hope it goes well for you Jenny.  I used to love going to weigh-ins when I did weight-watchers years ago.  I can remember feeling discouraged one evening when I had only lost 400g in the week.  Later in the evening however the leader passed around 500g of fat (very gross) and I realised that 400g was fantastic.  Goodluck and be sure to report back to us.  :)

Well I went really quiet when I weighed in last week & found that I had put on 600g!!!! :'(
After losing 1.8 kg the week before I wasn't expecting to lose much, but I certainly didn't expect such a big gain. I didn't do anything different from when I had my good loss, & I've done the same again this week, so I hope I have better results. I weigh in again tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes.

Hopefully this week you will be back on track.  It may be that you haven't actually put on that amount though as there are factors that can affect your weight.  For example at different times of the month a woman can weigh up to 2lb heavier due to fluid retention.  Apologies to any males on the forum who read this post!!!  :o :o ;D

Well done Jenny!
I'm really pleased too, as I lost 800g. My weight loss pattern seems to be 2 or 3 losses then a gain then 2 or 3 losses & so on. Very slow, but the overall trend is that it's going down. It's taken me since mid Dec 2010 to lose 2.9 kg!!! But I'm feeling good, & enjoy the plan, so I'll keep going.

Sorry, people I've been very quiet of late too on this thread.  We've been away (its half term here in the UK) so am not expecting great shakes come Monday's weigh in but back to the plan.

The insurance company is being really quite viscious about my car and it looks like I will be car less for the next week or so at least.  That alone should shift some pounds!  :-\

I'm a bit confused on the extra points we can use during the week.  I know that we should use all of our daily points but what about the week's allowance.  Should we use it all or is it optional??  Anybody know, anyone help??

Well done on the 3 kilos. It would be great to wake up the weight we want. The flylady says (About house and body clutter) that it didn't it didn't get this way in a day so getting tidy or losing the weight won't happen overnight. Keep at it 3 kilos is 1/6 of the way to 20kg  ;) I think go the glass half full  ;D

Thanks Megan! I went to the varomA demo last night and I think I blew the ww equivalent of having your car towed lol!
! I am trying to figure out what bread to eat.  I usually make the 5 seed or issi Portuguese loaf.  If I have calculated correctly there is 98 points in the five seed which makes it massive! What is the group thought on the bread question? I generally eat one piece a day with avoid so I am o kay point wise but it seems like a lot when the store bought ones are lower in points
Title: Re: Weight watchers
Post by: SoBlessed on February 26, 2011, 08:24:40 am
Hi Nik
The weekly 49 points are optional to use as needed.

Hi Joynatalie
I count the seed bread from the EDC as 6PP for quite a small slice (about 1cm in width & maybe 9cm long & 7cm high).
I do find this keeps me full for longer than 2 slices of store bought grain bread. I don't have seed bread as a sandwhich but like you have the one slice. I couldn't afford the PP to indulge in a sandwich!!!

Hi all, my weigh in day yesterday - really pleased to find that I've lost 3lb (over a fortnight).  I think I'm doing a test week this week to see what happens weight loss wise if I eat all my daily points AND all my weekly points.  I'm still carless so doing lots of walking - at least that means extra points!

WW is an omen to me, every time I join I might loose about 1-5 kgs, then slowly gain, and then I find out I am pregnant. This happened 3 times now, so unless I am planning number 4 I am staying clear of the place lol
That and if I break my toe, then I know I am preggers lol

Good luck with WW, I found if you serve up on a say a side plate, you looked like you were getting more food, but really getting less lol.

Not that I should be dishing out advice, my skinny me is dying by suffocation in my gift wrapped body of fat lol

My weigh in tomorrow morning and I'm so not looking forward to it.  I've had a REALLY hungry week!  I'm not sure if its the extra exercise I've been doing or the alli I've been taking (I thought I'd treat myself ... :-)) )  And I've just finished the week off with a great big roast.

I'm going to just get up in the morning, get on the scales and start again.  If anyone has any tips for WW friendly TMX meals I'd be grateful :)  I've been topping up with lots of veggies but clearly its not enough ....  Its a shame I've got children, then I could stop making bread - I've some mushroom and garlic proving at the moment ... :)

Great going joynatalie - that's all we want, to be able to fit into clothes previously too tight. Size 12 is great!

WOOHOO  Weigh in this morning and I've lost 3lb's this week (approx 1.4kg)  I'm absolutely chuffed to bits although I also recognise that to lose this amount of weight EVERY week wouldn't be healthy.  This brings me down to 12stone exactly

This week my aim is merely to lose - however little I lose when I step on the scales next week I want to see 11 instead of 12!

 ;D ;D

Happy dance

Nik

Patience is a virtue girls. It took quite some time to creep on so it'll take some time to come off too.  Don't forget to take your measurements! If you have a bad week on the scales, check your measurements before getting too upset.

Overall, as long as you are focussing on a healthy lifestyle, the rest will follow.

 >:( 0.3 this week!!! It is soooooooo slow.  The only positive is that it is slowly coming off and I am getting used to the small portions!!

I'm not on Weight Watchers, but I went to a friends house for dinner last night and they are Weight Watchers.  She made the yogurt chicken burritos - soooooooo yum - definitely would not have known it was diet food  :o Might have to try to convert to TM *insert bewildered smiley face*  ;)

Come on people, this thread has really died a death lately .....  Has everyone fallen of the wagon??

My weight is coming off very slowly but surely - down to 11st 11lb now.  I want to be THIN!!

I'm determined to keep going and find my slimmer me.  Aim for this week is another 2lb to get me down to 11st 9lb (single figures on the lbs ...  ;D ) and then the week after we are away in our caravan.  I'm going to eat carefully (but probably drink well ...) and still try to lose at least a lb.  The good thing about caravanning is its pretty active which makes up for the extra calories one often consumes.

I want to hear how everyone else is getting on!

Sorry u r right. I haven't fallen off the wagon as much as I am slumped over!! I gained 0.3 over Easter but lost 0.2 and have lost 5 kilos.  I am just so over the tracking and receipe building.
Hope all is well with everyone else

I gained over Easter. I had a few treats but still stayed within my propoints though.
It seems that if I have anything unhealthy I gain.
If I eat healthily I'm lucky to lose .2! It's a real struggle, so I haven't reported in much because not too much changes.

Hi :D Can I follow this thread too??

I'm getting my thermomix in roughly 2 weeks and am a weight watchers member. Have been since Jan now and lost a total of 16kilos.
I'm looking into following the 21 day healthy eating programm by Cyndi O'Meara once I get thermi. Has anyone tried it?

Hello,

I joined WW a week ago last Friday. My first way in was Friday just passed and I lost 1.5kg so was very happy about that. I am really enjoying the PP plan and loving the eTools too.

I've been very sporadic on the weight watching of late - we moved house just 5 days ago - but I'm ready to get on track and get that weight off.  The new house has fitted wardrobes with mirrored doors - if that's not an incentive to lose weight ....  ;D ;D

I have just jumped on the wagon! Ten kilos to lose and still in my first week. I was just surfing the site looking for TMX friendly WW recipes and came across this thread.  Is anyone still motoring along?

My weight watchers journey is on hold at present - had my TM about 4 weeks now and have put on about 3 kilos! Not just TM to be fair I was on holiday just before I got it. I think the novelty of making a cake in one minute is starting to wear off and I am trying to focus on making more main meals with it.
Sadly though there don't seem to be many WW recipes converted - must have a look at some of my favourites and see what I can do.
