Joyce, that recipe looks delicious! Being from Texas originally that is comfort food all the way to me!

Gert, The Homesick Texan has a recipe for breakfast sausage which is that style of pork sausage.  http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com.au/2008/02/breakfast-sausage-to-begin-day.html

Frozzie, unless luggage requirements have changed economy gets 2 x 23kg bags for AUS/US travel.  It used to be 2 x 32kg bags!  I think the baggage allowance between Australia and the US is one of the more generous.   :)

I've made a bittersweet chocolate tart and salted caramel sauce to take to our friends this afternoon.   I volunteered to make dessert.  :D

Deeau, we have a collection of duffle bags from our trips to the US because every time we go to pack to come back to Australia, we needed more luggage.  Duffle bags are good because they are light, and don't use up much of the weight allowance, and good for shoving clothes into.  :D  Like you we've traveled where it is 4 of us, so we get 2 bags each, and we've come back with 8 bags.   Have fun shopping!

On forums I just go with my name, or my name with things around it because a lot of the time sara is already taken. I like just being me.  :)

I made this tonight and it was very yummy!  Definitely tasted like chili con queso.  And I didn't use Monterey jack.  I used Bega So light Vintage cheddar because it's what I have here.

Delta, the classic chili con queso recipe that I remember from my youth in Texas was Velveeta (which is very similar to Kraft cheddar in a box) and a can of Rotel tomatoes.  Rotel tomatoes are tinned chopped tomatoes with green chilies.  :D

Introduce Yourself / Re: Hi
« on: September 29, 2011, 12:05:18 am »
Hi Delta, I'm a newbie too.  My story sounds very similar to yours.  I went to a demo.  Thought the machine was interesting, but felt like it was aimed at people who can't really cook.   I thought I can make bread, custard, risotto myself.   And if I really wanted to make sorbet, I could use my ice cream maker (which I discovered yesterday the bowl had leaked and it's now in the bin!).   I own a Kitchen Aid mixer, a food processor, a stick blender, a Kitchen Aid blender  So why would I spend this much money?   But I was intrigued and started looking online and found so much great information.  It all convinced me that the Thermomix definitely had a place in the kitchen plus my tax return and DH's well-timed bonus helped.  Also I didn't like the KA blender that I bought last year.  :D

I've only had my machine for 13 days.  I couldn't wait for my demo either, and just ordered the machine.  :D  We are on school holidays too, and I've been making a fair bit too and loving it.

It's addictive, isn't it?  :)

Dashingden, yup, guess you have little hope of finding Monterey jack there!  I could never find it in Sydney before Costco.  I wasn't sure where you were, and in case you were in Syd, Melb or Canberra, I'd mention that Costco has it.
I might make this tomorrow if our guests seem into the idea.  You can never tell what 8yo girls (my DD and her friends) will want  :)

Andie, you have the coolest "toys".

I would have maybe made a cake today, but the children visiting today have a mostly gluten free diet.  I might make something for dinner in the TMX, but the gray day in Sydney is making me unmotivated to do much of anything. ;)

I did, however, make  Tenina's chocolate mint thinsSunday/Monday.  I wasn't sure where to post a photo (like in the dessert section with a review?).  I was really pleased with how they turned out.
Here they are after baking before being coated with chocolate.  I baked them on the Sunday night and then coated them on the Monday.

Here are some coated in chocolate (Callebaut 811nv to be specific).  I made half of them peppermint and the other half orange.  I used some Boyajian pure orange oil.  I will confess and say that I didn't melt the chocolate in the TMX.  This is because I wanted to do two different flavours, and decided that cleaning in between would be pain.

(btw my photos are on Flickr.  FLickr has code that you can copy and paste to put it in a forum or blog.)

I think I ended up getting a little over 60 biscuits.  They are really yummy, and I'm glad I have to be accountable for what goes in my mouth or I would have eaten too many!  :D

I have to laugh at how it always seems to be DHs that really like this meal, mine included.  I would never order it at a restaurant, but would happily make this version.  Might have to file this away for his birthday in December.  Thanks!

I'm just going to jump in.  Hope that is ok.  :)

Marina, I'd cry if I dropped bottles of lemon butter.

Today I'm having a big cooking day.  We are having some friends for dinner, and we are having a playdate at our house tomorrow.  I have barbacoa beef in the slow cooker.  I made the spice mix for it in the TMX.  I've made coleslaw, and I was super careful to make sure I didn't make soup. ;)  I have Tenina's soft buttermilk rolls proving.  Next up I am going to steam some potatoes and boil some eggs in the TMX to make potato salad.    I also made some caramel popcorn for tomorrow, but it's not a TMX recipe.  It is very delicious though.  :)

Judy, I'd worry that it would split if you reheated it.  This is going to sound funny, but I was watching the Martha Stewart show once, and she had these guys on who make hot dogs with macaroni and cheese on them.  They were making the mac and cheese and said that they had to use American (so like cheese like Kraft Singles, you know processed cheese) in the mix otherwise it would split when reheated.  I know when I make mac and cheese with the classic cheese sauce, it splits when I reheat the leftover mac n cheese.  I still eat it because it's yummy, but it doesn't have the same nice texture.

Although saying all of the above, I wonder if you reheat in the TMX if it would blend it all back up and have a nice texture?
