Hi, we have had ours for 6 days now and keeping a list of the TWENTYTWO different uses it has ben put to so far! Almost all from my 12 and 14 yr olds (girls - sorry boy mothers
Last night we tried mango sorbet - which turned out really well only you really don't need as much sugar as the recipe calls for - 150g as the mango is so naturally sweet. It was a huge success using only one med-large mango and feeding the family of four with seconds. Next time I will quietly cut down the sugar by at least 50g. I have told the kids that I am no longer buying store biscuits or cakes so if they want to have something along those lines they have to put in the effort. They have with crepes - super easy. The coconut butter cake - very successful - don't know how easy as wasn't even home! Buttermilk scones - good way to use up leftover buttermilk and very yummy though did add more flour at shaping stage to make them manageable - 12 yr old managed that one all on her own etc etc etc You go girl, thermi makes all your ingredients go along way - not sure why but it just seems to ?? have fun!! 4

My husband (bless him) had a go at risotto last night as I was feeling so lousy - only he didn't read the bit about removing the parmesan before blitzing and sauteing the onion........Needless cleaning the jug at the end was a challenge with lots of sauteed on parmesan........tasted great though - as everything does when you didn't have to do it yourself!! 6

Thx everyone, yes we are having fun - balanced it with a crunchy salad at lunch time with bits and bobs from fridge - can see this is a great way to use up the last bits and pieces of things that usually go to the compost a week later.
Will have to get creative and make them some new aprons. I think anything branded with 'Thermomix' might break the budget -:) 7

Got the thermi delivered yesterday - less than 24 hrs ago - am currently tucking into Choc Hazelnut spread whipped up by daughters 14 and 12. So far they have made Hot chocolates, butter chicken, crunchie icecream slice, vanilla custard and butter (for use in the "Nutella". I had a brief look in in afternoon with a batch of cheese and vegemite scrolls and pumpkin soup.
Laughing to myself as the kids have no fear and no expectation of failure - they just opened the cookbook and went for it! Rebecca in Bunbury 8
Chit Chat / Re: organic palm olein oil - help please« on: October 23, 2010, 03:11:49 am »
Funny you should be asking about palm oil as I just replied to a question about Rice Bran Oil and happened to mention it. I too avoid it if possible though it is so hard to make informed decisions as there are so many variables we can't take into account until we are made aware of them. Just go with your best advice and good feelings. Hopefully there is another corn chip alternative out there that doesn't cost the earth!! (literally lol).
I just checked some I have in the cupboard Mission Original Tortilla Strips they contain Vegetable Oil (whatever that actually is??) Rebecca 9
Chit Chat / Re: Rice Bran Oil?« on: October 23, 2010, 03:04:28 am »
Hi, I use Rice Bran oil often, but I use it when Olive Oil isn't appropriate ie wok frying, other asian foods, dressings etc. It has little flavour unlike olive oil and is great for cooking when you need a higher temp. So not really an alternative to EVOO (though obviously you can use it then)- more an alternative to Peanut, Sunflower oil etc. And definitely an alternative to Palm Oil which is environmentally a big no no.

Introduce Yourself / Telephone scam relating to computers.« on: October 21, 2010, 08:25:21 am »
Hi all, probably not the right place to post this (but I'm new so forgive me). was just reading about someone's trouble with the internet and it prompted me to send this warning.
In the past 24hrs I have received two phone calls - originating overseas judging by the accents and delays - telling me that the person is ringing from a software company and they are ringing as they believe I am running a computer with Windows operating system. Luckily I am a Mac girl and told them so promptly and hung up BECAUSE a couple of months ago I heard about this SCAM on the radio. They get you to give them your credit card details after they kindly fix your supposed problems (non-existent)and sign you up for a subscription should you need their services again. PLEASE all you nice people do not EVER give out your details over the phone to someone who phones you out of the blue. Apparently they say they have been notified that you have an internet connection fault by your carrier of phone company. It is obvious that the vast majority of homes now have a computer and the vast majority of these run Windows so these unscrupulous people will have a good chance of sounding authentic - WHICH THEY ARE NOT. Oh and by the way - one day closer to getting my TMX!!! 11
