Allen:  Sure enjoying seeing all the things you are doing with your Thermomix.  If you keep this up, I may have to get one too!

Cookie:  Hello again too!  Been away for a few years and glad to be back.

MEP:  I've been listening to Radio Australia on shortwave for over 50 years.  Maybe you could relieve some of your homesickness if you listened too!

Glad to hear that, Allen.  Have fun camping and looking forward to more interesting posts on your return.  Enjoy reading all of the worldwide posts but particularly interesting to me reading about someone using the Thermomix in the USA.

Great thread, Allen, a very interesting read.  Will be looking forward to reading more of your posts.

New England clam chowder (my way)

I have been looking to make some New England clam chowder so I read the basic cookbook recipe and have been looking recipes up on the web. I did not have all the ingredients for the TMX cookbook so I pick one off the web but it was a stove top recipe, so it was time for me to mix the cookbook and the web to make it My Way, it started with a basic soup base onion, carrots and celery then I add potatoes, next came some GP flour, butter, half and half, red wine vinegar and finish it with salt, pepper and clams. I had some hiccups and need to work on the ingredients measurements, cook times and temperature, but when it was done I had a bowl for lunch. My DW had some with her dinner, her first comment was it’s not bad, but after dinner and she was done she told me that she like the chowder. With a little more work I should have a working recipe to share.

For dinner I pull a bag of leftover spaghetti sauce out of the freezer from last week, after cooking the spaghetti in the TMX I dump the hot water into a bowl and drop the bag of sauce in the bowl using the hot water to reheat my sauce, there you go another complete meal cook by my TM5.

I chose this name almost ten years ago when I joined a forum relating to the New York City subways.  I didn't think I'd ever get there to ride them in person, thus the name.  It isn't applicable to the cooking and baking forums I've joined but I haven't taken the time to figure out anything better so I keep using it.  No photos of my kitchen.  My late wife would not approve of how I'm keeping house.   :(   I do enjoy reading this forum and that members are all over the world.

MANGO BREAD

Makes two 9" X 5" loaves.

4 cups flour
4 tsp baking soda
3 tsp salt
4 tsp cinnamon
3 cups sugar
1 cup oil
6 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups raisins
4 cups chopped mango

Mix together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and sugar.  Add oil, eggs, vanilla, mangoes, and raisins.  Bake at 350F for about one hour in 9" X 5" X 3" loaf pans.  Check with toothpick to make sure it's done.

I don't know where this recipe came from but it's really good.  A nice dark brown crust and a light crumb.  Enjoy!

I will be happy to share.  Except I'm at work and it's at home.  I will try to remember to bring it in with me tomorrow morning.  The mangoes give it a wonderful flavor, the crust comes out nice and dark, and the acid in the mango makes the baking soda work very well so it comes out quite light as far as quick breads go.

mango bread does sound interesting  ;D i dont think we a mango bread recipes on the forum do we ?

will you share your recipe with us please  ;D

ciao

They got down to 6 for $1 at the Mexican market last summer and I made mango bread with them.  It was the best quick bread I had ever made.  When they are back in season, I'll be making more.

The Cuisinart was on sale last weekend for $159.96 and I was tempted.  :-\  However, I am not enthusiastic about Cuisinart's Chinese manufactured products of recent years so I didn't.  It is not exclusive to Williams-Sonoma anymore so I suspect we will see more sales in the future.  The Cuisinart doesn't look like much competition for the Thermomix but in the US, where there is no TM sales or support, it might get the market by default.  :(

Welcome to the forum, Joan.  I will be interested to hear of your experiences dealing with the folks in Canada and how you like your machine when you get it and what you use it for.  I'm also in the US but have just been watching from the sidelines due to the expense and lack of support (other than this forum) in the US.

Keep us posted!

I just started making my own pizza recently after using frozen pizzas from the store all my life and love it.  It's a lot easier and tastier than I expected.  I'm still experimenting with the dough so will give your recipe a try.  Thanks!

Thank-you all for the welcomes!  I'm sure I'll learn a lot at this forum.  I also like the international aspect of it.   ;D

Nice to see you here too, Andie, and thanks for the interesting links.  The DLX mixer you helped me with is working out fine for all of my dough making activities.

Now I'll get reading before I have to get to work.  Thanks again and see you all in the forums.
