Chit Chat / Re: Using whey in place of water for bread making
« on: January 17, 2013, 02:02:19 pm »
Did anyone ever have any luck with their bread made with whey?  Is the answer to heat the whey to 37?  I'm hoping to nail this because my family always clamor for sourdough, but I don't always have buttermilk and a I DO always have whey!  :)

Hi All,

1. Substituted milled weetbix for whole wheat - no whole wheat on hand
2. Quantity should be halved - obviously these measurements make more than the 2Lt capacity of the bowl
3. Date and Craisin mix is impossible to spread - I ended up mixing it with the flour/wheat/oats etc and spreading by hand
4. Used 2/3 butter, 1/3 grapeseed oil for more moist texture

Cheers,

Kate

Me again, answering own question with the results of my experimental batch:

1. Substituted milled weetbix for whole wheat
2. Quantity should be halved - obviously these measurements make more than 2Lt capacity of the bowl
3. Date and Craisin mix is impossible to spread - I ended up mixing it with the flour/wheat/oats etc and spreading by hand

This still passed the taste test.  I will post this in tips and tweaks too :-)

Cheers,

Kate

High Fibre Craisin Breakfast Bars

Hi All,

Does anyone know if it's possible to substitute rolled oats for the wheat?  Unmilled... Would this affect preparation?

Cheers,

Kate

Starters and Snacks / What Type of Tuna for the Dip?
« on: March 07, 2012, 01:17:23 am »
Hi, What's the best kind of tuna to use for the basic EDC tuna dip recipe?  I'm thinking the Sirena in oil that I use for the pasta, but wonder if that might be too overpowering.  Could this be one of the rare occasions when tuna in spring water (gak!) is actually better?
Cheers,
K

I saw one in action recently.  Comparing this product to the TM31 is not comparing apples with apples.  It simply doesn't do the same job nor does it approach the same quality. Plastic components of in the TC do not display food safe symbols.  The TC warranty CLAIMS to be 2 years but in the fine print says 12 months. Purchasing this would prove to be a false economy I think.
