Italian Hot Chocolate
« on: September 18, 2010, 11:15:15 am »
I want to convert my stove top Italian Hot Chocolate (Cioccolata Densa) recipe to the use in the TM so I don't have to stir while I wait for it to thicken.  Can anyone help me with proportions, speed, time, temperature?  My basic ingredients are cocoa, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla essence and milk.

The hot chocolate recipe from the Everyday cookbook always works a treat for us (although with very reduced sugar).  Perhaps you could try that method, substituting in your ingredients.  :)

I agree - the EDC hot choc is fabulous. I also reduce sugar and I use dutch cocoa so reduce that to half too.

Thanks for suggesting the EDC recipe.  I hadn't noticed the variation for the thicker consistency and it works perfectly.  My husband likes to add a dash of amaretto into his cup.

I've been going straight to the good stuff! A yummy hot choc made with just chocolate and milk.

Grind 40g dark choc on speed 8 for approx 8 seconds (mine is additive free and about 50-60% cocoa, if you use 70% coccoa choc you may need to add sugar to taste so that it's not too bitter).

Add 250mL milk (full cream or skim, either is fine)

70 degrees, 4 mins, speed 5. Enjoy!!

This is a serve for 1 person, if making a serve for 2, double the quantity of milk and chocolate and warm for 6 mins instead of 4.

I make one of these almost every day and it never dissapoints. Keen to hear someone elses verdict though  :)

Hi thermie crew, I have never made hot chocolate in my TMX so thought I would give it a go right now!  Delicious.  I only had choc buttons (generic brand) so used them and didn't need to add any sugar.  Thanks a lot.

Glad it worked out for you judydawn. I should have attached a warning though-once you've had this the powder ones just don't cut it! I've become a very fussy hot choc drinker now  :)

In Adelaide 'Bracegirdles' is a great chocolate shop for real hot chocs-at glenelg andd burnside. Lots of other yummy things on the menu too for chocoholics!

Good to hear. My 2 chldren (3 and not quite 2) are chocoholics even though they don't get it much. I think chocolate during the pregnancy did it!! Glad it's hitting the spot-good calcium!!!!
