We discuss everything in this household. I have a tendency not to buy things for myself - they are always house purchases.

We too have a business and a number of investment properties - we both work hard but it is pretty much down to DH that we have a good financial standing as I was a shocker in my 20's LOL.

It was a bit of a shock for all of us (my sisters and brother) when my mother was widowed at close to 60. We were in range of 20 - 26 years old , so young adults but simply unable to cope with the grief and shock for quite some time and not very financially astute ourselves. I remember seeing my mother trying to cope with financial decisions for the first time in her life, i was just starting out in a career and serious relationship and and I thought to myself - never will I let myself get in that situation. I am not as good at finances as my DH - he has a masters in finance! LOL, but I refuse to allow him to be the financial administrator. If I think something is good value and right for the family I buy it and will live with the decision if it is the wrong one. Thermomix - good decision! Suede sofa - bad decision.

Bickie, I can understand you.

With us, its a case of I am always reachable, and now in the office all day.
My DH is out of range alot of the day, and in the water, So I have time to do everything, including decisions.

He calls me Minister  of war, and  finance and Dept of internal affairs. ;D
My Thermomix,  Kitchen Aid, Pizza oven, Nu Wave 5 in 1, Spatulas, all brings love, laughter, happiness, and great food  to my kitchen.

As my DH is at the shop more than I am, he seems to do a lot of the ordering. I usually just pay the bills and do the paperwork. At the end of each month we know how much we have left in the bank and that is when I can buy things I want. I also have a wish list which I refer to at this time. If I still want something after it has been on the list for a month, I get it. It saves on impulse buying, which I used to do a lot then regret.
Clothes, shoes etc are allowable at anytime.
Exercise is a dirty word... Every time I hear it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate
