Butter making
« on: June 05, 2012, 09:37:20 am »
I have not attempted this, but I am low on butter and bought some cream that expires soon at a reduced price. Which is the best & easiest butter recipe to use?

I found this one on recipe community,  Easy Butter (using thickened cream), takes 1 litre f cream for 460g butter, seems an expensive way to get butter? ???

H it is in your EDC, just wash it 3 times with cold water instead of the once in the instructions :) That is the one I use and I just turned 8 litres of cream into butter on the weekend!

Oh wow Faffa, so if the cream goes out of date in a day or so the butter is still OK?

Do you freeze the butter?

Yes Halex the butter is fine as its the butter milk that will go off before the butter. That why it pays to wash the butter 3 times like Faffa said to get rid of all the butter milk. You can freeze the butter milk and the butter easily.
When I first got my TM my sister and myself made butter from 10 litters of cream (what an effort) :)

At cooking class, we are told that if you want the butter spreadable, add a little grapeseed oil - not olive oil as it has too much taste.
