Hello all, such lovely grub chookie.
Unfortunately hosts are not always good. A Polish friend of ours paid good money to stay with a family in London for 2 weeks before Christmas while on a course. The milk was greatly restricted at breakfast, and only cornflakes offered, no toast and she had pasta with hardly any sauce every single night. I was so ashamed on her behalf that she was treated this way. She and her friend were buying food in the day to keep going.

I had some great help in the garden today for a couple of hours and we had fresh bread, cheese, chutney, tomato, veg and bean soup followed by custard tarts. ( the tarts and bread came from local shop)  We gave some money at a church do last year in return for some help. We achieved a lot, a bit of girl power went a long way. They will be back again once more in about two weeks. It was lovely to be outside on a sunny day.

The parquet floor needs another coat, but today was gardening and animals.

That's a great way to get extra help, DJ.  I guess, like the wwoofers, its somewhat of a bartering system and so long as all sides are happy it's the proverbial "win-win" situation.

They have had one very bad experience,  but are not complaining.  They had Cornflakes and instant noodles ,  every day for 2 weeks.  3 meals a day.  Can you believe that. .?

I bet they were worked to the bone too.  However did they manage to stay there for 2 weeks :o  This is going to be one very good experience for them Chookie, one they will remember for a long time.

BZB I am sure they would be hard workers too. They could give recitals at night.

Some people treat workers so badly, it reflects badly on the country. Last year on the way home from Birdsville we met up with a young German couple. They had been working in Mildura and had been cheated out of 3 weeks pay. We wanted them to go to the police as felt it was so wrong. They wouldn't as some of the people they had been working with were illegal immigrants. Obviously the employer was aware of this and took advantage.

Not sure about that, Cookie. We were out in the garden on the weekend. Eldest was ok. He mowed the lawn, and swept up the bits and pieces. DS 11 and 9 just kept on stopping their weeding to complain :D
