Yes it's young for here but honestly the kids love it and under 5 is the age where they absorb so much info.. Each to their own.. Dd is same., bday in sept and if she wasn't used to a full time school system we wouldn't bother.. When in Rome and all that but she is going backwards and we are worried it is damaging to her..her principal In France was too and wrote a letter to the new principal to support her application.. Not that it did much good..

I have seen so many kids go from baby like to adorable independent little people who love school and learning so much.. Children are very capable little beings and its such a shame they are treated like babies so old imo.. This is not a judgement of anyone just a system that frustrates me is all.. No intention to offend anyone ..

In France it's a 4 day week but longer day than here.. Here they finish at 2.45 and in France it's 4.30 which makes up for 5th day.. Wednesday is for sports...

My DS  was the youngest in his class and under 5 when he started  school. Ok i lied about his age. He was reading and writing and was bored to death . He was a real muck up because he wanted to learn stuff not play stuff. It was a trial for the school and for me. He did more work at  home than he did in school. We just figured out that when the other kids were finger painting he was allowed to read. When the others were playing  with Lego he ws allowed to read. And so it went on for about a year. The teacher finally realised all he wanted was to read and learn . It kept him from mucking up and disturbing the play groups.  They used to send him to upper classes to keep him busy. I think the teachers used to pass him around.

Eventually he became a teacher in a very small school where he taught  several grades in one room so he was able to individualise the teaching.  He is well respected because he knows the value of adjusting the teaching to the child. This is something many schools cannot and will not do.

When you are settled you will have more choices and perhaps a private school or at least a progressive state school  is for you. Otherwise it may be home schooling for a few years.

Good to hear its not just me ... We will definitely have to work something out as they are going to be bored to death.. Nearly died when I saw 5 year olds playing blocks and playdoh and teaching sitting at à round desk watching and the 5 day kindy well won't go there... Maybe private schools if its more suited to what we are after.. Starting to understand why more parents are homeschooling.. Will be ok for ds for a couple of weeks as adjusting to be taught 100 percent English but after lol

Oh and he has helpers and carers to help him adjust?? I'm all for help but when it's needed.. Ds is just going to milk that for what it's worth..anyway.. Better finish getting ready and drop him off..,
