Bloody menopause. Mine went on for 15 years.  I use to have the sweats so bad that it  ran down my legs and ruined a pair of silk covered shoes.

Finally  took HRT which turned out was feeding my breast cancer unbeknownst to me.

Soon  changed my tune from "I Am Woman Hear me Roar" to " I Am Woman Hear Me Scream"

I loved those shoes. Purple and blue  they were.

15 years :( well that's dashed my hopes....   Those hot flashes during the night definitely disturb sleep!  I have my iPhone and earphones next to the bed so I can listen to Audible stories when I can't sleep - I drift off to some horrendous murder and mayhem tales... Not really bedtime stories but it does stop the mind from getting over active.

They sound like great shoes Gert ;)

You know when you are almost over the hill when you make dinner for visitors and then remember just when  it's all ready that they are not coming until next week!

We ate well tonight and will again tomorrow with no cooking!!!

LOL

First time ever done this!

Thanks for the laugh on a cold, rainy morning Jess :D It was just what I needed!
I hope you are not too put out by it though :-*

I am not a saver nor particularly sentimental but I kept those shoes, even though I didn't wear them, for years. I kept  wishing them  to get better but they only got mouldy.

I was one of those women who was gunna breeze through the menopause. You know, the arrogant,  I can do anything type of woman. But wham. It nearly did me in and made me very humble and sympathetic to others who were struggling with it. I also found that many doctors and particular  the  male gender were totally ignorant of the facts.  I spent many hours, nay days, researching and talking to other nurses and doctors about it. I had an endless  supply of each.  In the end I think it is every woman for herself.  The breast cancer was  nothing compared to the menopause  in my case.

Part of that time I was also working for WW as a leader and I also had endless supply of woman going through the same thing . We were all very supportive of each other even the younger women in my many meetings.  Interesting that I thought of that . I guess it is because we are a similar group of mainly women here, all like minded , supportive of different ages and stages of life.  I had a few men in my classes  and they were always great.

I shouldn't  have mentioned those shoes. It sent me thinking about the past. It is all uni's  fault what with her night sweats.

Two elderly women were eating breakfast in a restaurant one morning.
Uni noticed something funny about Gret's ear and said,
"gret, did you know you've got a suppository in your left ear?"

Gret answered, "I have? A suppository?"
She pulled it out and stared at it.

Then she said, "Uni, I'm glad you saw this thing.
Now I think I know where my hearing aid is

Sounds like you had a rough ride Gert!  I started around 50 and am now 53. Only symptoms have been the "power surges" and lack of period.  I'm very happy to not have to worry about those anymore.  And age is just a number. I know people younger than me that seem older :) in my mind I'm a pretty consistent 20 something (well in my dreams haha).  Ten grandchildren is a bit of a reality check!
