Had my sis her family here for the weekend - spent most of the time keeping 12yr old nephew fed!  ;)
And then a bit of an adventure this evening with a  earthquake! Kids are pretty unsettled tonight after it, but seems to be no damage here (some mess in Wellington city by the look).
Glad you are okay Jo,  hope there is not more. Take care

Jop - really glad to hear you're ok . . . have just been reading online about the quakes.  I hope the aftershocks have settled down and there'll be no more "rocking and rolling" for you!!  It really is an unnerving experience!!!

Glad all is OK Jo. DH and I were staying Christchurch when the first earthquake hit - not the devastation caused by the second one. Didn't realise how much damage until we walked into The Square next morning.

Thanks for letting us all know you are ok Jo.

Gert the bread was lovely. We have eaten it all already. I posted photos under the thread in bread. Next time I will cook it a little longer.

thanks everyone!!   :-*
It is pretty spooky - had a decent shake on Friday, then another this morning, few small ones then big rock n roll this evening. Just feeling a bit on edge really wondering if there are more coming!
But so far so good, and happy there has only been one reported injury (last I heard).

It sure does Michele but isn't it great how we can soon tidy it up.

How far away are you from the area affected Jo?

We are in Petone which is across the welly harbour from the cbd, about 10min by road, and the  cbd is where there seems to be most damage in our region. The Mercure hotel has been evacuated due to one corner sinking 5cm!!

The quake was centred actually in the Cook Straight between the north and south islands, and the town of Seddon on the south island got pretty badly hit. Not as big of a city so less high-rise type buildings, but sounds like a big cleanup on both sides of the straight.

I've been on a nz forum which is getting loads of helpful tips from some Christchurch girls!

It is still school holidays here so at least we get to stay close to home and make sure we are sorted tomorrow.

There have still been lots of (smaller) quakes near the same epicenter - not feeling them all here, thankfully.

THIS is where I go to look them up when we feel them.  It only shows the most recent 20-ish (haven't counted) though, so not showing last night's 6.5 one anymore (when I got up this morning and looked, it was only showing from about 4.30am onwards because that's how many there'd been since then)

I also find it disconcerting that we are in a "tsunami zone" so could potentially have to move to higher ground in a bit of a hurry  :o Quite unlikely though - has to be a certain type of shake in the right area and hit the harbour at the right angle.  We are not in the "red zone" along the Hutt River either, so probably (hopefully) being over-cautious, but lets just say I'm keeping my radio on today!
