Last night. My DD was eating her fish with cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce, when she pointed to a dark thing covered in cheese sauce. She asked me what it was. I looked and then told her that I had served her a millipede in cheese sauce. LOL. I told her that it was the price we pay for buying locally grown, fresh veges.

Perhaps  you can start a new trend - escargots without the fiddly shells. It could be argued that your dog has a well developed haute cuisine/gourmet appreciation of the finer (greyer) things in life??

My mother once cooked a huntsman with some silver beet. She opened up the saucepan and this enormous spider was laying on top dead.  My father was annoyed because he loved silver beet.  I don't think the spider liked it too much.

I hate slugs and am sure this same thing will happen to me one day too, so I'm not laughing too much or too loudly - more of a gentle wee snicker behind my hand!

No I don't think I will. I threw the offending piece of cauliflower in the bin, but I did try and eat the rest and it just didn't taste right I definitely won't be able to eat cauliflower in white sauce. I'd be too scared of slugs hiding in there...

Yeah, but you'd think they'd be easier to spot in cauliflower, wouldn't you? I mean, cauliflower is white and slugs are grey! Just a little bit of a contrast. I still can't believe I didn't see the ugly fat thing while I was washing the vegies

sometimes they hide inside under the florelets and come out once there in hot water . this happened to me once with some home grown cauli and brolli
maybe next time cook the cauli separate  then add the white sauce when serving

l hate it when you chopping up home grown cabbage and you chop a worm in half  yukko

Oh Dear.  I have had a dreadful past few days (nothing too drastic just one thing after another) but after reading your post I have had a great laugh.  Sorry - I know we were not meant to laugh but if you could know how much better I feel now I am sure you would forgive me.
Actually as I read through the comments I have alternated between laughing and feeling gross but the laugh won out.
