My friend and myself are giving up smoking, we decided today we are going to find 2 good book to buy each other for christmas to read to help keep our hands and minds busy :)

My book club is reading "The Slap" as our final book for the year.. It should be an interesting discussion as we all have kids.
Has anyone read the Christmas Cookie Club book? We are going to try it this year. For every person who attends, we have to bring a dozen biscuits to give to them, plus an additional dozen to give to a charity. We will all come away with dozens of biscuits :)

That's a great idea ES. We did The Slap and surprisingly there wasn't as much discussion as I thought. I lived it but others really didn't like the story or the writing.

Usually our book club does ancient books as we have quite a few pensioners in the group. (who often don't turn up)The books are obtained through the local library so there have to be 12 copies. This restricts things a lot.

When I lived in the bush we had a great book club. It consisted of 12 members (one for each month), they had to be an assortment of ages to get different points of view. Then we chose our book and bought 12 copies and on sold them to the other members. We all managed to slect new, topical books of both fiction and non fiction. I don't know if this sort of book club exists in the city. Anyone know please?

I read the Slap, and basically it seemed to start off ok...a..y... but then it just got boring. I wanted some fireworks and it was just a fizzler. Very so so.

I felt much the same as you did CP. I felt they just needed to grow up and get on with life.
Our latest book club book is "The Help" which is a beautiful book.
