Just as well you have more common sense than some of those doctors . . . have they suggested anything else?

I think maybe it was an anti-depressant the doctor might have suggested as they do have a positive effect on pain problems like fruity's (not due to them being anti-depressants, a separate effect on how nerves 'talk' to the brain). They often work a lot better than pain killers in this situation.

That's very interesting to know why the drs would prescribe antidepressants in a case like this, Bonsai. I've seen some very sad cases involving reactions / side effects to anti depressants so  i must admit I'm somewhat anti.

They can work really well for some people and aren't always used at the same doses as they would be for depression. They're used less often now due to the increasing popularity of medicines in the anti-epileptic family which also have a good effect on nerve pain. Unfortunately they're really expensive in Australia which is why anti-depressants are still used.

Yes I've been prescribed both anti-epileptic drugs and anti-depressants for back pain - sometimes successful! Worth a try when pain is constant I think.

My brother was given anit depressants for pain and they helped him no end. Very useful. Thanks for the explanation Bonsai. ;)

the one suggested was actually a mood DEPRESSANT, not an anti depressant as it dampens down the signals from the nerves ( and the brain is a big bunch of nerves).

There is another that is an anti depressant but not as effective in this case.

Again I am reluctant to take either anti depressants or depressants. I guess I will just continue to grin and bear it .

She is pretty upbeat but you can tell she is not right, struggling to get any decent sleep as she wakes when she rolls over, we have to be super careful when we pick her up, the car seat belt hurts etc etc etc, but she is still smiling... just saying ouch (or oooottts as she says) a lot
