Maybe mashed potato. Cornflakes or weetbix.

My mum's standard stand by for bread crumbs was Wheatbix or crushed cornflakes.
I use them all the time to top casseroles etc.

My nana always put cocked rice in her tuna patties, and the rice would go slightly crunchy when they were cooked.

My Mum only ever used mashed potatoes in her patties and then just in flour before cooking - no need for breadcrumbs at all!

My mum used crushed potato chips then baked them in the oven. They were really nice but I'm not sure how healthy they were. She would also put them on top of tuna mornays. The crushed chips that is

I only ever use mashed potato in my tuna and salmon patties. I then coat them in seasoned rice flour.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
