For Our Men Folk

About 4weeks ago my DH (Don) went for his annual check-up at the GP's. I'm so glad that he does go for this check - so many men don't go for regular health checks. He had nothing invasive, just blood tests and returned a positive PSA (prostate) this doesn't always mean cancer, just an indication. Based on this test, Don had a biopsy and it turns out he has a 5.4cm tumour. He had absoloutely no symptoms - a bit unusual for that sized tumour.
On Monday, 13th May he has opted for a radical prostatectomy (there are lots of options). We are hopeful that it is all contained and further treatment won't be necessary.
Please, encourage all the precious men in your life, no matter what the age (Don is 53) to have a PSA blood test - doesn't mean they have cancer, just an indicator.

Much so sorry to hear the news. This a great reminder to ensure regular checks are kept up by both men and women.
All the best for next week.

Thanks for that Michele. I was actually present when my DH had his examination last year. He had that and I had my Pap smear and we got our annual blood test results all at the same time. The GP thought it was a great idea.

Gosh that's scary - especially that he had no symptoms with a tumour of that size. Men tend to be reluctant to have these checks.
I only hope Don comes through his operation with flying colours. My thoughts are with you both.

Thank you Michelle.
All the very best to your DH for his op. How lucky that you did this routine test.
