What could I make on a Market Evening stall?
« on: July 21, 2009, 03:54:36 am »
I'm hoping I'm not too late to get onto a stall at the Market Evening our school is holding as a fundraiser the week after i start with tmx.

any ideas on what to make given it'll be a freezing cold canberra winter night? i thought of sorbet as being easy and nearly impossible to give anyone food poisoning but i don't know if people would be keen on it, especially if the venue is cold already lol

How about making pumpkin soup in the TMX - blitz the onion and saute and then add pumpkin chunks and blitz them before cooking to really speed up the process.  Add stock goo or concentrate and boiling water from a kettle.  Should have it made in 5-8 minutes. Blitz and then pour into a crockpot to keep it warm and serve with a dollop of cream into cups.  If it's cold (Canberra) then that would be easy and cheap.

You could serve some bread too.

Karen, when we were in Margaret River a demonstrator there had made some dips, basil, sundried tomato etc and served them with crackers. I think soup would be rather good for Canberra weather though.

We've also done hot chocolate - goes down a treat.

You could also make some sort of cake/pudding before hand and make custard while you are there.

I have found doing these events that you need to keep changing what you are doing - hope you have someone to help you & make sure you are near a water source.

Just be careful that you might have to fill out logs & comply with all sorts of health dept regulations if you are going to cook & serve food there...........be warned!!

Best of luck but & tell us how it goes. :) :)

I did a local school one last year & once the council got wind that we would be serving food cooked there & pre-prepared we had to come up with a "plan".  The event planner wasn't aware until the last minute, it just meant being able to vouch that things were held at the right temperature etc.  You do the plan on line - not hard, just annoying if you don't know about it until the last minute.  I had to aquire a proper thermometer - you've probably already got one with all your Brazen adventures!!

In WA when we sell things at markets we have to have all the ingredients listed on the container. Not sure if you're actually cooking there though.

I know how cold Canberra can get but I was just thinking that a sorbet while cold, is probably safe in lots of respects.  It's not heated or cooked and if you use a no egg white one then there are minimal bugs that can harm it.  It can be nut, dairy, gluten free etc so misses all those issues as well.

Mind you, not having my TMX yet my knowledge is limited so there may be other things that meet this as well.

Just my thoughts.
