Do you find you still buy meat in between? We bought a lamb a little while ago and we still have a leg, some cutlets and ribs in the freezer, but I bought diced lamb on the weekend because I really wanted a lamb curry. I think I would end up with too much that I wasn't interested in eating buying beef but with pork would probably be ok.

I would be very interested in hearing how much you pay.

Wonder, Just checked prices

Beef    $5.99 kilo
Pork    $8.50 kilo
Lamb   $10.99  Kilo

saves heaps, :)

considering beef goes anywhere from 18.75-$42.99 kilo

Lamb chops from $17.00 - kilo
$23 leg
lamb cutlets $25

Pork from $15.39 = $19.50 kilo

for a average family, you can save $3000 plus.. :-*

It also depends on the price the poor farmers are getting for their stock and the demand. I agree all the prices are very good.

will be ordering lamb, pork, and a 1/2 beef on Monday. :)

Have worked out what is in the freezers, ready to stock up again. :

(My local butcher had pump problems last night, so looks like we get a better deal on meat, as we fixed him last night, with a loan pump for the weekend.) ;D ;D

Hi ladies my name is Jessie and only joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and enjoy the banter that I have read so far not to mention the recipes and have already used the dips, pate and cupcake recipes but noticed there is a chat group about meal planning and would love some guidance in this area how do you go about it, I am very unorganised and dont plan well in advance then when its lunch or dinner time a lot of head scratching goes on, hubby not much help, as there is only the two of us, need help please.

Hi Jessie and welcome. :)

I have 3 big freezers for food, so I have now written down what is in them.
We buy meat, pork, lamb, fish, chicken in bulk..

So I have planned dinners for a week, and take out 2morows (meat) the night before.

I have a very well stocked pantry, which is great.
I had forgotten what I had left, untill DH cleaned them out on the weekend, and made my list.
I go through SFI magazine, and recipes from here, and print.

Jessie I only plan the evening meals. I have a planner sort of like a timetable of the days of the week. I put in what we are eating, where I will find the recipe and what I need to buy for the dish all in different columns. I take into account anything that is on that day and have a column for that. Eg going out to lunch
I sit down the day before I do my shopping with books etc and decide for the week. I try to have a balance between red meat, vegetairian, fish and chicken.
I also have a little box for what is in the freezer and baking ideas for the week. I devised it to suit me. I find it easy during the week to simply look at that and know what we are eating.
I could send you a copy if you wanted it but I will not be home until next week.
