Hi Caroline - further to your comment below, yes I do think its worth tweaking as I can see that it has the potential to be a great dish.


Sounds like you'd better give UK thermomix an update, so that they know. 

I take it from your original post that the flavour is good enough to bother finding out how to tweak it to make it successful is it, Vixen?  If so I'll have a play with it myself once I'm back onto spicy foods.

May pay for anyone game enough to try this recipe to be prepared and place aluminium foil or baking paper in the base before putting the leg in.  ??? ???

ok guys,

finally got it working - here are the tweaks :-

1. I used cardoman seeds instead of pods
2. The first step was to mill the cardomon seeds and pepper corns and then put them to one side. They then get put in the dish with the other ground spices.
3. I used ground cinnamon not a cinnamon stick
4. When putting all the ingrediants together and bringing to the boil I added another 100ml of water

This seemed to get around all my problems and made for a nice curry  ;D

I cooked this tonight, completely as is in the Indian cookbook as I hadn't seen this thread.  I cooked it very long and slow in the oven as I was using a very scraggy bit of lamp  :)

Apart from the whole spices which were slightly off putting its definitely got the thumbs up  ;D

I have two very faithful curry connoisseurs in the house tonight in the shape of dh and a friend and they both said it was very nice, said friend commented that I was making curry "the hard way" when I told him what I was making.  DH simply didn't believe that I could put together a decent curry and is really suprised.

I made this tonight all in the thermomix, rather than transferring to the stove or oven, although I did brown the meat In the frypan. The resulting sauce was delicious and I didn't have the problem of drying out that others describe. I would definitely mill the cardamom pods next time, however. Unfortunately, I used non descript "lean diced beef" from the supermarket and this will still tough after cooking for ages. Will definitely make again with a different cut of meat, however, as the flavor and thickness of the sauce was lovely.
