You are right Chookie, no rough surface but the butter did soak in easily. I am not a fan of wholemeal products but I thought I'd follow the recipe to a T (and use up the last of some wholemeal flour I did have in the pantry for some reason) so next time I'll use all white flour.

Just made these and they are much easier than my bread machine recipe and surprisingly nice. They toasted up great. Thanks for a great easy recipe.

I had one toasted this morning for breakfast, and JD it did have a few holes in it.
, it was a bit heavy maybe that is the sour dough starter that I used but the flavour was great.

I have made these for the past couple of weeks every Sunday. They are great and we love them much better than supermarket and waaaayyyy healthier. I roll them in polenta. Thanks for a great recipe 5/5 from us.

Yours didn't get too brown like mine Mrs KK, do you cook them on a low heat or line the pan with something?

Hi Judy - I just cook them in the oven for 15 mins. Generally I use scanpan roasting pan lined with bake sheet. My oven is not very reliable and is slow.

I think Thermomixer had a recipe for crumpets Kim, I don't recall a muffin one from him. Chookie has sour dough muffins on the forum though and that's where I got confused with this recipe when I asked Mrs KK the previous question. Chookies are cooked on the stove top, these are cooked in the oven.

- had not even thought I would be able to make them! Will definately be trying this soon!
We have them with bacon, egg and cheese in them (like a Maccas one) and we all love them. Will be so happy if I can make the muffins too.

Made these again for eggs benedict this morning for breakfast. Great recipe. I could put the dough in the fridge overnight and just let it come to room temp and roll and final rise in the morning. Saved a little bit of time and the Thermomix didn't wake everyone. We had visitors and everyone loved them. Will definately try a fruit version another morning.
