I made another batch of tomato chutney yesterday and have been cooking up the small truss tomatoes and freezing them.

When I go up to the Italian grocer I have been able to buy 1-2kg of over ripe tomatoes. I’ve taken to putting them min the thermomix, adding a tablespoon of sugar and a tablespoon of good balsamic and cooking them right down. It makes a lovely, rich paste or Passata.

From this, to this.

In my infrequent trips to the local shopping centre I have yet to see any cheap tomatoes, I only buy 3 at a time now.  Your passata is a great way to use over-ripe tomatoes.

I tried the carrot cake recipe in the WW Pie maker book today. It was too hot to put the oven on and we needed some cake. They needed a bit more cooking but I thought they were quite nice.

It’s all trial and error isn’t it cookie but if you can get the timing right for a few basic recipes you’ll be getting the most out of your pie maker.

Nice try Cookie.  I find the best cakes in the mini pie maker are the lighter ones. I often use a commercial White  wings cake mix.  Shameful, I know. GS loves them as they taste like nothing.  Really awful.  He loves junk food so these fit the bill. I make 1/2 a packet at a time.

I am over tomatoes!!!  DH keeps bringing more in most days, thank goodness they are starting to slow down now.  We only planted 3 bushes but they have been very prolific.  It must be all the good things he puts in the ground before planting.

After seeing Cookie's photos yesterday I decided to make some tomato paste.  No particular recipe just a bit of this and that.  Put it all  into little bags and in the freezer.

How we would all love some of your tomatoes Margaret, I’d be the worse tomato grower in the country but my Dad was one of the best.  Pity it didn’t rub off on me!

I made a loaf of JulieO's Fruit Loaf today.  A very nice loaf.   DH has cut the crust off even before it cools down.

Mab, that is a very nice loaf.
I’m not a very good tomato grower but I pulled out the bushes yesterday and collected all the cherry tomatoes.  I hope they will ripen. The large tomatoes didn’t ripen at all.  I have been ripening them on the window sill.
Neighbour gave us a box of small peaches.  He refused to peel any more.  I simmered them and the skins just slid off.  Today I made a peach crumble, a peach topped crumble cake and bottled some.  None wasted. Will send the neighbour 1/2 the crumble cake.
Have made a pasta bake.

I made a Classic loaf, have a rye SD in the fridge for an overnight rise, some choc chip biscuits with a few salted peanuts on the top and some Brazilian Cheese Puffs to go with Pumpkin soup for dinner. https://www.quirkycooking.com.au/2019/04/extra-puffy-brazilian-cheese-puffs-pao-de-queijo/
I found them a bit too full of fat for me, but DD and DH had a couple each.

The Age Good Food has a lot of bread recipes published today. The mix of seeds and spices in some are interesting.
Cookie, the Brazilian puffs look interesting.
Need to fill the biscuit tin.
Made a pasta bake with added broccoli and the last of a packet of pasta. All held together with Bol  sauce.

Great cooking everyone. So I stewed home grown pears like heaps , they were all very ripe , the wind last week has been very unkind , normally they are fine and last for ages . So I decided with the second jug full that I would driving the liquid off , filled two small sweepes  bottles with the pear juice . Will make a crumble with the drained pears. Have a large bowl that will be used on cereal . Gave the chooks a little of the rotten pears . So quite economical.
Also made for lunch steamed baked eggs with smoked salmon and avacardo salsa from Cookidoo . Severed with fresh snow peas and slice of sourdough. Added to much cream , not popular with kids but next time would omit the cream as it made it too runny .
