So are you saying that at 20+ they don't improve?
what!! OMG. I give up now.
My DS who is 15 refused to help his father on Saturday so I ranted and raved about how we do everything for him and he does nothing to help us back so I banded him from doing the paper run Sunday which is worth $60+ for him and passed it down to my next oldest DS who is 14. This punishment usually works for a little while.

Hi CP. I have to agree with Frossie. Time to kick the chicks out of the nest. Get them to join the Army or something. They will be expert at all their needs in no time!! meanwhile remember Lysistrata of greece who also went on strike though she chose a different room than the kitchen
She won the day though!!

It is with shame that I admit that I didnt truly appreciate my parents and all they had done for me until I had children of my own

Day 2 of strike is going well. Last night had leftovers from the fridge, and went to bed early and heard the dishes being done at about 10pm. got up this morning and nagged about a couple of things that need to be done, and was told by DD1 that she will make tea tonight. She has no idea what she is cooking, so she wants me to decide and shop for ingredients (hmn, just deciding whether that will fit in with the strike rules - I think she should at least have a recipe in mind so I might have to wait until she gets home from work to see if she has thought about it all during the day) One thing I found out when you do the" Bare Minimum" you actually have quite abit of spare time up your sleeve so I might go for a long walk. Looking around the house, still not happy with lazy attitude so it looks like the strike will not be easing up.

You will have to see it through now that you've started it CP - close your eyes to the mess, hard to do I know but this will never work if you cave in. Good luck with this terribly hard mission you have set yourself.

Well done CP! My mother did something similar when both she and my father retired. She was sick of having to plan and cook all the meals, so she put him in charge of 2 evening meals per week - planning, shopping and cooking: so now one night they have fish and chips, and the other night they have chicken and chips
We have had visitors staying with us for a couple of weeks, with 3 teenage kids. DH has got a little annoyed with how little they help out around the house, so last night he announced that since today is the last day before they leave, they can cook us dinner tonight for a change. They have to plan the menu, tell him what shopping needs doing and cook the meal. He alsio announced that they are expected to clean up after themselves too.
I am at work all day, so who knows what I will find when I get home!
Do you want me to send him round to sort out your kids CP???

I haven't baked much lately
too much paperwork to do
I will try and make some of Chookies savoury cheese muffin tops later.....I think the kids will love them for school....minus the olives of course.

....I send you bucket loads of cyber willpower.....I have tried "strikes" in the past, but I'm too weak to follow it through!

Oh how easy it is to go off track, Is this thread about 'What are you cooking today' or 'What are you
not
cooking today'?
lol. I am on another computer today because my Laptop has gone to Hospital for a hard drive transplant, I am hoping she will be released all fit and healthy at the end of the week. (Fingers crossed) I don't like using another computer, and I cant stand being away from the forum for to long either.
Good luck CP with the Strike, I find that it does work to a certain amount but they do seem to go back to their lazy ways within a short time. My kids don't do a lot either but I think that's my fault because I am so particular and routine with what I do that no one can keep to my standards so I just do everything my self. I should of made them do more when they were younger and continued doing it. I think it could be to late now. But worth a try.

Oh CP there must be something in the air!!! After I had a mini meltdown on the weekend (lots going on in life atm) and telling a certain 20yo plus a couple of teens that I am putting their board up (tripling it in fact lol) so that I can pay for a cleaning lady to come in twice a week as I have far too much on my plate right now things have improved A LITTLE!!
Mine are scared cause they know I
WILL
follow through lol.
I also got sick of ranting and raving about things not being done properly so got smart on the weekend ... Mine have all grown up working at McDonalds (shudder) since they were 14 so work systems well! I have written up a complete system for each chore that I ask them to do
on a better note, yesterday was a huge day in my kitchen
brownie milk & coffee chill
BBQ sauce
Sweet Chilli Sauce
2 x loaves bread
Chickpea & choc chip biscuits
Basic slice
Worcestershire Sauce
Pizza's
I can't remember what else ... think they may have already eaten it
