Good on you CP63!!! Stick at it. People are amazed when they learn that my 5 year old son regularly vaccums the kitchen and dining area, puts folded washing away and unpacks the dishwasher. I sometimes think that we baby our kids too much these days when they really are very capable.  It isn't always perfect but he is learning (and I have learnt not to fuss). Spending 20 minutes each day helping with housework certainly won't hurt him. ;D ;D ;D

I feel for you CP63, mine have all left the nest, last year after boomeranging for a few years, the bedrooms are all taken now, DH has one as his toy room, (computer and music stuff) sewing room come guest room and the other is a junk room atm. Sorry no room to move back in.
They were a lazy lot too, if they could get away with it, I made them all do there own washing as that's all I seemed to do on a weekend and the other  was to get each person to cook on meal a week, we did a menu plan and they chose what they wanted to cook, not going to be home, swap with some one, DS GF was staying most night so she had to cook as well, it worked out fine for a good few month, till I stopped working. Youngest was 25 when he moved out.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

It is comforting that they are all the same.
Faffa, I had a how to clean the bathroom, and toilet on the back of each of the doors for a while. There was 3 at home( only 2 now) and they took turns weekly ( after nagging and arguing who did it last). that and their bedrooms is all I ask. But meltdowns are all that keeps it on track.
CP keep it up, just to be appreciated for a short while will make it worthwhile.
Mind, my DS 22 doesn't live at home any longer, I often ask him to stay and he doesn't prefering his own home.  I like my babies in my nest lol.

I know how you feel CP. After a couple of strikes myself, I went into total meltdown mode a few years back. Made the kids sit down and write a list of what they did around the house and I did the same. We then swapped lists for a couple of weeks and carried out only the listed tasks. They were exhausted by the end and I now only ever have the mention the lists and it seems to shock them into action. Hope your strike holds out and be tough in the bargaining agreements.

what a great idea twitterpated! Yes, I'm not popular atm, I know what they are thinking (mum's just going a bit psycho, she'll come around...) just in case DD1 doesn't want to work out whats for tea, AND THEN go shop for the ingredients...I bought a loaf of bread and some baked beans  ;D (for them to make when they feel like it of course)

Nothing! Currently in a major hissy (must be contagious ATM) because of the scarcity of help round the place.

CreamPuff, keep it up.

As I was growing up (from as far back as I can remember) I was allocated certain chores around the house to do each Saturday and I was not allowed out to play until the chores were done.  I also had to keep my bedroom clean and tidy at all times.  Getting away from that, you are simply teaching your kids living skills and responsibility for themselves.  They are quite old enough to be living independently and, if they want to stay at home, well, they must just learn their independence and how to care for and look after themselves under your guidance - and at the moment you are giving them a good dose of what happens when they haven't got someone running about after them all the time.

Keep at it - it is, afterall, for their own good in the long run  (here speaks a woman who has never had kids, mind you, so it's easy for me to be 'hard' in theory if not in practice!).

Wouldn't have worked for me as a kid CP - I love baked beans - but if you were my Mother, you would have known that and would have got something in that I didn't like. :D :D

Last night DD1 made faffa's Curried Sausages with rice which were very nice. Am going to the movies tonight to see 'Red Dog' with my sister and then we will be going out for tea afterwards. I am a little hungry though as I haven't been able to make any cakes or biccies, and can see myself shedding some kilo's if this strike is prolonged  ;D ;D ;D I got my piping set from Lakeland on Day 1 of the strike, and I really want to try piping some buttercream on some cupcakes but its against union rules.

Neighbour gave me a huge bag of lemons, so I will make him a jar of Lemon Curd.
