Had family here today helping DH spring clean his shed so I fed them Chinese pork spareribs & marinated chicken legs (non-TMX), pasta w/garlic, oil and chilli (TMX), corn on the cob, tossed salad, banoffee pie and raspberry cordial.

They all sound lovely. We had a salmon/cheese sauce dish last night and have been having fresh fruit for sweets to recover from the rich Christmas.  I must make some more cookies. I made a pineapple and banana cake for DD's birthday on the 31st.

Do you make your cordial with fresh raspberries JD? I can't get any fresh berries here, other than strawberries, so would have to use frozen ones. Has anyone made this cordial with frozen berries?

Over the last few days I've made light-as-a-feather bread, delicious hedgehog, roasted garlic and macadamia aioli and am finishing off the Christmas Ice Cream Torte with a few tweaks.

I thought I might make a few desserts that I can freeze, so I've always got something on hand if visitors drop in. So, will be making a cheesecake tomorrow and maybe a Chocolate Ripple Cake on Monday when I can get some more cream. I don't know how that will freeze, but I'll try it anyway.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Pikelets for afternoon tea, chilli con carne and rice for dinner, Anzac bikkie slice (find it quicker than doing actual biscuits), and I've got yogurt cooking now, my first go at it in the Thermomix. i'm going to use the container/thermos from the EasiYo.

I most certainly do use the frozen ones MJ - fresh raspberries would be far too expensive unless you are growing them yourself.

Same here! Only have used frozen (except mulberries were fresh off tree) I think frozen berries would be cheaper and more 'fresh' as they are snap frozen not long after picking whereas punnet berries always seem limp and on the turn. I keep my eye out for frozen boxes of berries coming on special you can get them as low as $5 for 750g - much better than $6-$8 for 150g.  ;)

Just a note on frozen berries.  I saw in the new Woolies cataglogue that they are selling their frozen ones half price starting tomorrow.  Not sure if it's the entire range, but worth a look.  :)

Oh, I wish I was near a Coles!! Hang on! My boys are in Perth....but, they'd defrost on the way home...but...if it's for cordial, it wouldn't matter! Sorry, just typing my thoughts out!!

 ;D

I just made dried apricot jam. Will post recipe.

Today, not much happening just some lemon/orangeaid with breakfast, some biscuits and Beef & Spinach with mash and veg for dinner, were munching through the lemon lime tart from yesterday as desert, hubby had 3 slices last night and declared it a 5/5 *yay*.

I'm such a wally.  It's Woolies that are having the half price on frozen berries, not Coles  :-))  I'll edit my previous post.

I saw that Julie. I'll be off too. I have stock piled quite a few frozen berries as I grab them anytime they are less that $1.20 per 100g. Just be careful of the Nannas ones. I bought a couple of kilos of these cheap and they are mainly strawberries. (or mine were) This will be fine when there are no fresh strawberries round.

Thanks for the advice re using frozen raspberries for cordial.  I incorrectly assumed that everyone was able to buy cheap raspberries. Will have to try some now.

Oh, wish I'd read this earlier, my DS just went into Woolies in Katanning this morning... :-\

Never mind, my DD gave me a kilo of cherries. She bought them for $6 as they're seconds. I've just spent half and hour pitting them and am freezing those delicious little jewels right now. Don't know if my fingernails will ever look the same again though1 :o
