All this lovely cooking and I am not doing much as DH is not to have much in the way of cakes etc. now. Made bread rolls today though and he asked me to make some horseshoe rolls like we used to buy. Has anyone ever made them as I am not sure if they are just a bread rolls recipe with poppy seeds or is the mixture different. Would love to hear from anyone who knows.

Lemon muffins, Chookie's nut and seed spread, an avocado pasta dish (not terribly successful), spicy sweet potato bake, the tastiest vegan macaroni and cheese I have made since DH had to give up dairy and I think I will make a quick lasagna today as well.

Chookie, are your Beetroot chips oven dried or in a dehydrator?

Troupie I think any bread recipe would be fine for horseshoe rolls. Have you tried Chookie's No Fuss Rolls
http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=4253.0
I think this would be yummy.

Kat, the beetroot flakes are dried in the dehydrator and the zapped in the TMX.
I had 1 teaspoon added to rolled oats for breakfast and needed no sweetener.
Troupe, are these the dried out rolls that you get in Turkey? If you could point us in the right direction, I am sure we could work them out for you.

Thanks Cookie; I have done those rolls but not as horseshoes.
Chookie I haven't been to Turnkey but these rolls were popular when I first went out to work. They were the shape and size (about) of a horseshoe and had poppyseeds on the top. From memory, and that is quite a while ago, they were crispy on the outside and I think soft in the middle (not absolutely sure about the middle). We usually bought them as ham and salad rolls.

OK, Troupie, they are not the Turkish ones.
I would use either Cookies Vienna loaf recipe or my No Fuss.
The Vienna will give a lighter roll.
Make up either recipe to the second rise. Make a long sausage and cut into 8 or 12 even size pieces. Roll each piece into a sausage and then form into a horse shoe.
Place on tray covered with baking paper, place horse shoe on it and spray with water, sprinkle with Poppy Seeds then spray again. ( this will help them stick) can use egg wash.
Cover with plastic.place dish of water in bottom of oven.
Allow to rise in warm place. Bake.
If reheating, spray with water and pop into a hot oven.
You will get a crisp crust doing this.
Have fun.

I used to love those horseshoe rolls too troupie, I haven't seen them anywhere these days though. They were definitely crusty on the outside and soft in the middle.

I remember horseshoe rolls too Troupie. Crusty outside, soft white bread inside. Brings back memories, I had forgotten them.

Of all the things I make in the TMX, mashed potatoes would have to be the GC favourite.
