Two weeks to demo - how do I pass the time?

Hey All,

Well we're having a demo at our place on Saturday 10th April it seems. Two weeks away. Man, what am I supposed to do until then?

Does anyone have any suggestions for stuff you should checkout specifically during the demo? Or will it all be self explanatory? What are the things you thought of after the demo that you thought you should ask?

Given there seems to be a dearth of demo's in the southern downs region, anyone who want to to come to our place at Maryvale, 30Km east of Warwick, is welcome to come along.

I guess the big question is whether we try and get her to bring one with straight away, or wait

Russell the only time that will go even slower for you is when you are waiting for your TMX delivery. (if you decide to buy). I can remember boring people on this forum with how many days I had to go before mine arrived. Perhaps you could look through this forum and see if there are recipes you'd like to try or questions you would like to ask your consultant. Other than that perhaps you could do a Rip Van Winkle and sleep until April 10th!!

So she started asking me questions while I was trying to go to sleep last night 

She would like to use it as much as possible, and one of the important things is being able to replace our breadmaker. Now I've seen a couple of opinions here where some say they still use the breadmaker, others say they threw theirs away. One of the problems is that she has a bad wrist so can't knead dough at all. We also need nice sqauare sandwich bread for the kids lunches, so the small flat loaf breads aren't an option either/

The other thing she saked about was if it could boil water? When I asked why, she said "Coffee". Now I basically drink water or fruit juice, so I have no idea about coffee, apart from the TMX can grind the beans I'm sure.

She also asked about whether the Varoma is big enough to cook a family meal in. I haven't read much Varoma stuff, but I said probably not in one go. But then the frypan doesn't cook the whole meal all in one go when doing something like chicken breasts either. Do people do "two-pass" meals in the TMX?

I said she should get on here and post her own questions. Whether she will or not, I have no idea. I'll have to start editing my comments if she does though

Bread opinions vary tremendously on here.  I've never had a breadmaker so can't really comment on that one.

Can definitely boil water, and grind coffee beans.  There are some great cappucino recipes etc on here.

Varoma meals - yes, there are quite a few "one-pass" meals, and "two-pass" meals around.  Eg you can cook a meatloaf and the vegies in the varoma while cooking the sauce in the bowl.  If you search for varoma, you should find some ideas on here.  And there are bigger families that are cooking enough for them, so you should be fine.  Bron's meatballs come to mind.

Some meals are "two-pass" but for instance, cook the beef stroganoff and put it in the thermoserver to keep warm, then give the bowl a quick rinse and cook your rice.  Much less cooking than the frypan and the rice cooker.

I gave mine away and I have 5 of us here. I totally suck at kneading bread so the TMX does it all.  I just shape it by hand and then bake.  For sandwich loaves, you may need a bread tin with a lid to make the square loaf.  A few members here have them from memory, hopefully they can give their experiences.

It certainly does... hence how it can cook pasta, boil eggs etc.  It takes a lot longer than boiling a kettle though but you can make coffee from ground beans AND froth the milk.

For my family, the varoma is fine to cook a complete meal.  Sometimes if my teenager is extra hungry we put on the rice cooker as well but mostly it's fine for a family of 4.  Often the teen will also not eat the dinner I cook and get up and make his own recipes in the TMX while we eat.  

I'm sure your DW will be quite welcome here if she wishes to join in!!

Hey I just thought of something else! If we jumped in and bought on on spec, and then decided it all wasn't worth it, the second hand market is that good, that we could sell it anyway with only a small loss!

What's the bigest loaf size that'll come out of the TMX? If we got a 900g tin, does it fill that?
