I meant to comment that I watched the Australian Final from last year and felt that the winner would not have won in the UK contest.   I enjoyed watching the Australian shows for entertainment but, even though it lasts a lot longer, the contestants do not seem to be put through as many rigorous tests as they are over here.

Our latest series has just finished and it's an absolute corker.   The quality of food produced by the 3 finalists is staggering.

I'm one eyed, as I really like Matt Preston  ;D  He is extremely professional, has a wonderful personality (from what I have gathered from TV Land), marks fairly and always offers good criticism, and I love his fashion flair - his cravats are gorgeous, and a very masculine individual fashion statement.

I love the positivity and encouragement that the judges offer - especially George, getting that girl back to finish her pav.  Even when a contestant's food isn't very good, they never belittle them or make derogatory comments, unlike most judges on tv.

I shouldn't laugh at the pancake pav., as the next one I make might have "Karma"  come to visit me  ;)
He was told specifically to make sure the egg white was whipped til peaks form, before adding the sugar.....but he didn't listen.....twice!

Their critiquing was softer, which I'm pleased to see.  No nasty remarks, just for entertainment value.
Will be looking forward to  see the personalities of this group, which I think I enjoy just as much as the cooking.

The judges were VERY gentle compared to the original UK version!

I certainly hope that the challenges are a little more testing in the rest of the programme.

Tivo sounds great faffa!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Yes, it is amazingly bad compared with the UK - very basic.  last night the worst 20% had a bake off for a pavlova and 80% of the worst lot had never made one !!!!  So embarrassing to think that these are supposed to be our BEST amateur chefs.

It has a lot to do with the fact that they have to be locked away for 8 months with almost no outside contact.  The current footage is from October last year and the best of them will be stuck in confinement until JULY !!!!

So, it is not something that the average person could do.

George yes,  but not necessarily Gary, unless it is a pretty girl.  N.A.S.T.Y.  They did let grannie (sorry can't remember her name) die a painful death with lamb/pork and knowing she had the wrong amount of sugar for the pav.

Think they would be sad to see that girl go - she has the looks/personality that would win hearts/points for the show.

The show really needs to be taped and replayed without the ad breaks and repetition to make it bearable.  You probably get half an hour of footage in an hour.

I agree that it is good to get straight into the final 50 rather than have heaps of footage, repeated of who auditioned, and repeated and repeated scenes of people who auditioned and who auditioned and repeated scenes after the break of who then didn't make it, but after the break then we see again who auditioned and got eliminated .......  I'm out of breath  :o :o :o

This year's crop of contestants seem more mature too.

Should give a few more laughs though.

I love laughing, but know I shouldn't.   :-)) :-)) :-))

lol your funny thermomixer!  i agree with the repeated scenes, drives you mental, last year i would watch some episodes i missed online. at least i could skip the ads!
i guess for me i just love to cook and am interested in seeing what people do on the spur of the moment with unknown ingredients.
i do agree the uk show is more full on.
Think they would be sad to see that girl go - she has the looks/personality that would win hearts/points for the show.

that is exactly what i thought when george was encouraging her to have another go

yeah i guess it is cynical and probably wrong considering she didnt get through anyway!
i loved the challenge last night, how great would it be to pick all your fresh produce and then cook with it (of course with tm) straight away!

i was glad that young guy got a second chance. he really did well coping under the circumstances and just carried on with the task by coolly doubling his workload. his partner was not up to the stress of the competition, and whilst she put the blame on him initially it really hit home when placed under pressure to perform. i was surprised the guy who made the profiteroles stayed in because the comment was they were ghastly and didn't feel like attempting to eat another one.
