Judy and Hally your bread looks wonderful. Bet you were both happy with the end result. I think bread making is such a rewarding recipe to make when it turns out so well.

Great looking loaves. I must try your double idea Judy. We used to be able to buy bread like that when I was a kid, you probably still can.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

JulieO, very simple, 1st rise in tm for 1 hour, 2nd rise in bread tin 2 hours.

Straight into hot oven.

I made Hally's version today and WOW!  Both DH and I think it's the best loaf I've ever made.  The insides are so soft, I mean really soft but didn't break when buttering, (I do add 1 tsp nat bread improver) and yet the crust was so crusty.(my perfect kind of loaf).

I do add cold water to the bowl and heat it with the sugar and yeast for 3 mins/37C/speed 1.5, then add the rest.  I find this makes the bowl nice and warm for the first rise which I ended up leaving for 80 mins (in the bowl), knocked back 1 min/Interval speed, then after shaping and putting in the bread tin, I lightly sprayed the top with water, covered the tin loosely in a clean tea towel and put outside and left undisturbed for just under 2 hours. 

I couldn't believe it when I saw it and the towel hadn't stuck to the top either.  Baked for 25 mins.

Will try doing the rolls in the same way next time I make them just out of curiosity.  :)

I agree Julie, we all love this bread. I use the bread improver too.

Its so nice to make a loaf that rises so high &  stays that way. The crust is so crispy & the bread so soft & light.

Your loaf looks fantastic.

Plus think how cheap this is to make ;D

I'm just a terrible cutter of tall bread, it's not the bread it's me  :P.  Mine toasted around the edges but not the middle Hally.
