Rich chocolate macaroon tart

Rich chocolate macaroon tart:
Ingredients:
• 1½ cups desiccated coconut
• 1∕3 cup sugar
• 1 tbs plain flour
• 2 egg whites, lightly beaten
• 1½ cups (80g) roasted macadamia nuts
• 300ml cream
• 300g Plaistowe 70% cocoa
• 4 egg yolks


Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 150º C.
2. Combine coconut with sugar and flour, mix well, stir in egg whites, mix to combine. Reserving ½ cup mixture, press remaining mixture into base of 23cm springform pan.
3. Bake 15 minutes until golden.
4. Press reserved coconut mixture firmly into star cutters to shape on greased oven tray, remove cutters, bake 10 minutes until golden.
5. Sprinkle macadamia nuts evenly over base.
6. Heat cream in pan without boiling, add cocoa, stir until combined, stir in egg yolks, carefully pour over base, refrigerate until set.
7. Just before serving place star macaroons over top, if desired dust with icing sugar.

Serves 20

Meegles - I've just made this, my base didn't go golden, except around the edges, I didn't like to cook it too much longer as the edges would start to burn.. I made the macaroon stars and same thing.. Just wondering what I did wrong, I followed the recipe except I used Gluten free flour, but I can't see this making the difference... Still, the tart looks good, so i will report back tomorrow on how it tastes.

Update - I need the advice of people who can actually cook, I can't, but Dobbie is making me look good!! I made this tart yesterday and the taste is amazing but it really didn't set very well... yes it was very hot weather, but even straight from the fridge it didn't hold its form, even this morning it is still quite sloppy... So I am wondering if there is something that I could put in to make it more like a cheesecake consistency, like gelatine??? Thanks all!!

I saw that Nay-Nay. I hope you have lots of happy eaters as it looks delicious. I cut out a slightly different Anzacs recipe out of our IGA catalogue this week. If it works I'll post it.

Well - here it is!!! Dah-dah!  ;) Just look how glossy it is!  ;D
And here is the conversion. It's more or less ganache over a giant macaroon.  :)
Rich chocolate macaroon tart:
Ingredients:
• 100g desiccated coconut
• 80g cup sugar
• 20g plain flour
• 2 egg whites, lightly beaten
• 100g roasted nuts (almonds, whatever you like) and 50g cherries
• 300g cream
• 300g 70% chocolate
• 4 egg yolks

Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 150º C.
2. Combine coconut with sugar and flour, mix well, 10 sec sp 7.  Reserving ½ cup mixture, press remaining mixture into base of tart dish.
3. Bake 15 minutes until golden.
4. Press reserved coconut mixture firmly into star cutters to shape on greased oven tray, remove cutters, bake 10 minutes until golden.
5. Sprinkle almonds and cherries evenly over base.
6. Heat cream 70oc, 5min sp 1 - add chocolate, and let stand for a minute then stir until combined, stir in egg yolks, carefully pour over base, refrigerate until set.
7. Just before serving place star macaroons over top, if desired dust with icing sugar.

Serves 20 - very rich!

Wow, that sounds and looks so great!! I am determined to try it this weekend, with gluten free flour, I am wondering if it will still work... Anyone have ideas on that??

I can't see why it wouldn't - it's only 1tbsp in the macaroon. Let us know.  ;)

I saw this recipe too!  I pulled it out of the catalogue and it's sitting on my kitchen table to remind me to buy the ingredients when I go shopping.

the original recipe uses a springform tin - are you just going to slice up and serve, or can it be removed from your tart dish?

@ creampuff - Yeah - I don't like my spingform pan but you can see through this pie/tart dish and I thought it would still taste the same. just sliced it up as we ate it.  ;)
@ Chookie - I think it did us about 5 smoko breaks - so yes 20 serves. It is really rich you don't slice up a big pie size piece....until the kids go to bed!! LOL :D
