I make these quite often for my kids, I reduce the sugar and add marshmallows instead. I find they stick together much better.

We have played with the recipe also -
So following the recipe at the beginning of the thread - or from the school lunch box booklet - but
We omitted the dessicated coconut
Used 100g puffed rice (whole grain brown rice)
and
instead of sugar we used Coconut palm sugar (same measurement).
The result was a beautiful toffee coloured and flavoured slice! And we can pretend it's not quite so bad for us given the brown rice and nutrients from the palm sugar!
Rapadura would no doubt give the same result.
We're keeping it in the fridge (don't have to send the kids to school with them - they school at home!)
YUM YUM YUM!!
Will push some choc chips in next time....

Did they hold together as well using the puffed brown rice? I find they crumble up and am thinking of chopping the puffed rice a bit.

They held together really well.
The first time I made them I used 120g instead of the 150g recommended - but they fell apart.
Second time I used only 100g and after pouring/dropping into tin, I flattened down with a piece of baking paper between my hand and the mix so I could really push it in.
It still makes the same amount in volume as the 150g traditional rice bubbles if that makes sense?

When I make these, I cut them and store them in the freezer, that way it takes a little longer for them to crumble in warm little hands.

MollyGrubbles:
I made your marshmallow LCM's the other day... or should I say my 8 year old made them and both the kids just loved them! They're asking to make more. Thanks for that recipe. It's well loved here!

I think off memory there is some healthier version of rice bubbles (rice puffs?) from either the health shop or the health section of the supermarket. I made these on the weekend and it just vanished. Added glace cherries and next time will add some roasted peanuts and marshmallows I think. Next time I may also decrease the sugar (did I say that
) super easy.

Hi brand new here and I don't even have my tmx yet..it's ordered though. I've made something similar using mars bar and butter as the glue in the recipe. I've also done marshmallows but they give them a sickly sweet taste

Made with wheat puff and top with melted dark choc. DD is in fussy stage and decided she doesn't like dark choc bit.

Unless you are super skinny and need the kgs, I wouldn't add the choc either
You don't need it. Its a yummy recipe, and yes I love chopped roasted peanuts, glace cherries, and chopped marshmallows as you feel like adding.

I've never even thought of making these, it sounds as though I should give them a try.

The recipe just says to use reverse Mumiiii, I'm sure they would have said if you needed to use the butterfly. Someone who has made them will hopefully confirm this.
