Today I bought (and set up) a worm farm.  Now as "dependents" I have 2 children, 2 cats, one sourdough starter and about 1000 worms.  Put that on my next census form  ;)

Hi Karen, I set up a worm farm about 2 months ago, I only started with 500 worms, they are dearer than their house.  I just ordered another layer because the two that came with it are full.  Did you buy the conditioner, I found that my mush(from the TMX) went mouldy and found that it is too acidic, it had a lot of little white worms so I've been increasing the egg shells.   Can't wait to start using all the juice and soil.

Hi Aussie Brenda,
I didnt buy the conditioner - I found a recipe to make your own, which is much cheaper.  I will hunt it out and PM it to you if you like.  It has some chook feed pellets, dolomite lime, bran and dried milk powder in it, along with other stuff I cant remember.  I used to have a worm farm ages ago, but DH put it out into the sun cause he thought the worms might be cold.  They ended up cooked and dead  >:(   I have only just got around to replacing it.   When it was up and running, I added one or two spoons of the conditioner stuff once a week, and they did just great.

Found the recipe:

Chicken layer pellets 50%
Wheat or cornflour 10%
Powdered milk 10%
Bran or wheat meal 20%
Dolomite lime or agricultural lime 10%

Mix together and sprinkle lightly on top of the scraps once a week.

We add a box of 500 worms to the compost about once a year. They are breeding really well so probably won't add anymore this year

I'm using much more vanilla bean paste -  With thanks to Tenina's recipes....so it makes more sense on the pocket to buy the 400 ml jar, which converted to $47.68.....than $10 for the 65g pot of Queens paste.
looking forward to seeing the taste difference.
