Bread Mat
«
on:

Now I have started making lot of bread, yes I am really enjoying it now.
I was wondering if I needed a bread mat. What do you all use it for?
My bread rises nicely by the fire at the moment.
Thanks

I don't have one Hally and I cope quite OK. I have a silicon mat (not as big as the TMX bread mat) that I usually plop my dough on to work with when forming the rolls but the first rise is usually done in the TM bowl and the second rise on the lined tray or in the bread tin on so I have had no need for one up to now.

I make bread often and don't have a bread mat. I haven't bought one up until now as I was given an old style mat and rolling pin from the mother of a very dear friend after she passed away. My friend doesn't bake much so thought I would like it as her mother and I used to talk cooking often. Just can't seem to give it up because of the sentimental attachment.

Hi Hally , I have a bread mat and love it. But choice between a second mat and a second jug, jug wins hands down. You can improvise for a mat but not a jug.

Hally, I'm with the others - virtually all my bread rises in the jug for the first rising, then I work with it on my old Tupperware pastry sheet, and 2nd rise happens on the tray/in the bread tin. I'm seriously thinking about that 2nd jug though ...

I have a bread mat Hally and I really love it. Most doughs don't need any extra flour using that. The only thing I don't like about it is that I can't cut on it.

I have a bread mat and love it you can purchase cheaper silicon mats though keep an eye out. I am so pleased I purchased the 2nd jug I think it enhances my investment and use them both everyday.

I could do with another jug now. I have a Cobb loaf in the jug on my first rise.
Thanks for all the replies.
I wil buy a cheaper one, it's to stop the flour going everywhere, I am rather messy

I love the TMX Bread Mat, not for bread, but for pastry. It's nice and heavy and sits on the bench without slipping around.
Don't know what I did without it - yes I do, I made a hell of a lot of mess!

Can't say I need the mat but that 2nd jug is a must. I don't know how I did without it now that I have one.

I have the bread mat and love it, saves me a lot of cleaning up. I too would love a 2nd jug, its on the list of things I need/want.

I've got both the old and the new one. I like how flexible the new one is and find the measurements on the side very useful when rollng out pastry or dough to a certain size. Is a mat necessary...no, but its just a nice accessory to have. The 2nd jug would probably get more use, but isn't that $400 compared to $60 mat?
