:)m Hi Megan,
I've had mine for about 12 years now.
i use it every couple of weeks, for using up leftovers into pies.
Sweet or savoury, also you can make quiches in it too.
Last weekend, i made up 6 pies, and heaps of pasties from leftover chicken / veges, and a casserole.
Great for m for lunch, now I am working full time again.'
They don't cost much to buy.

Just spotted mine in the cupboard the other day - got given it for christmas last year and still haven't used it. Sounds like l need to wipe off the cobwebs and get filling!

I keep reading poor reviews due mainly to the fact that you have to heat the pie maker first and then try to line the pastry which shrinks back with the heat before you have the filling in let alone the lids. Is this the case or do you have a model that doesn't have to be heated first?

I've been interested in one of these for a while but just haven't got around to buying one
Thanks for starting this thread Meagan - right up my alley and it will be a great help for me to rethink whether I really need one or not, depending on what our members have to say about them.

Yep, love mine too.
Like Obbie said, great for left overs.
I don't always use pastry, I often flatten a slice of bread with rolling pin (crusts off), and use that instead of pastry.
I have a Sunbeam 4 pie maker.
Also nice to make quick apple pies.

Does it need to be pre-heated maddy? I can see DD's point - it would be hard to make a pie if the base was really hot.

yes DJ it needs pre heating i have no problems with shrinking, if you have your base and lids cut and ready to go. mine is a breville

I used to use mine all the time, but got out of the habit when DH had extended time off, so it's now sitting idly in the cupboard. Mine is an old one that only makes 2 at a time, and I used to get a pie production line going, and pump out a dozen or so pies that I'd then freeze for lunchboxes. They were always very popular. If I bought another one, I'd probably go for 4 rather than 8, as I think it would be easier to work with 4 at a time, rather than 8. I used shortcrust pastry for the base, and didn't find it difficult to get it into the hot pie holes or that it shrank too much to seal the pie.

I have a very old one that does 2 at a time. I feel that the pastry to filling ratio is a bit too much pastry (packaged puff) for the amount of filling you put in. It does make efficient pies but I find you have to be sure to have quite a dry filling otherwise the bottom of the pies goes soggy very quickly. It is also hard to clean if it's hot (and sometimes stuff bakes on....).
I agree that it is a pretty quick way to use up leftovers into 'instant' meals - maybe I should try bread or shortcrust pastry.....

I love mine , it is about hmm 18 years old I think and only makes 2 pies.
use it for a multitude of things, including breakfast pies if we are traveling or leaving home early in the morning.
I use shortcrust on the bottom and puff on the top. Never had a problem with them shrinking back either.
If I had to replace it I think I would go for the 4 pies but do agree that 8 might be a tad difficult to work with.
