Lurking. Has anyone compared a turbo (convection) oven and an air fryer? Is there a big difference? Do I need an air fryer?

PS: And what's this about a new thermie???  :)

Okay, I have been asked a question that I can't answer and hopefully some one will be able to tell me the difference between the Phillips XL air fryer and the Phillips Avance XL.   I think the Phillips XL has the code HD something ending in 90 whereas the Avance model ends in 30

Sorry Cldy, I haven't done a direct comparison but I've read somewhere that the airfryer is much easier to clean and therefore used more :)

I had a conversation with Philips asking if the made a pan for my model which she said was the Avance XL 1.2  model and the only made the pan for the Viva 800 ml so far. So it is called Philips Avance XL  .

So just the two models.

Cidy,  Differences are.....
AF can go into dishwasher and  pull out drawer with out switching off.
Turbo oven,  takes more food and can see through glass how things are baking.  More difficult to take lid off to stir.  Have to unscrew bottom from frame to clean well.  Top has element so can't  go into dishwasher.   This is the oven that has been on the market for many years.
There is a 3 rd type that has a paddle that stirs.

I did have a German made turbo oven,  years ago.  Can't buy them now.  2 glass cases , bit like a square clam shell.  Element fitted into back and supported glass containers. Could put glass into Dishwasher and it packed up into a fairly small size.  Larger capacity than AF.

Thank you so much Jamborie and Achookwoman!

I have a cheapo turbo oven we use to roast chicken and kievs. Bit the bullet and bought the air fryer last night - in the hopes that perhaps my hubby can do more cooking as he is keen on the purchase.

Achookwoman, do you still use your turbo oven at all? I'm wondering if I should give away my turbo oven or still keep it "just in case".

Wow Gert.

Cldy I would keep the turbo oven. There is nothing as delicious as a roast in a turbo oven. You can put lots of vegies round it too.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
