I wish I could have a cat but the mean person I live with won't have it, nor can I have chooks which I love. I keep telling DH that when i'm coming home from his funeral I'll be stopping by the rescued battery hen place.

Viv, I tell my husband the same thing about getting a cat if he dies! At the moment, he says if I get the cat I've always wanted, then he's getting the pet carpet snake he always wanted. So we just stick with the dog and the chooks.

not sure who is making the quickest recovery??? yowzers poor thing you look completely worn out after the op.  you would think having a tail cut off would involve an overnight stay at the vet (at least for Tabs)  :o

MJ from the title I wondered if you had made your cat into a cake :P. Although not a cat lover I must say I loved the photos of the 2 cats.

I think cats are cute but I am very allergic to them - unless I am dosed to the eyeballs with extra meds.   I used to do a lot of artwork, portraits and engravings of cats for my clients.

Never made a cat cake but I have made quite a few basenji cakes like this one:

I start with one of the "stand-up" lamb cake molds - I have a large cast iron one that was my grandmothers - and build onto it.

Mostly I made them for our local basenji club holiday parties.

I have made other doggy cakes - using the same base once made a corgi cake with even larger ears - tricky job to get them to stay in place.

Fantastic andie!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

No, red velvet cake is not dense enough to hold its shape.   This one was a chocolate pound cake, which is very dense (and keeps much longer than regular cake)  and is similar to a "keeping cake" my grandmother used to make for slicing very thin and making tea sandwiches filled with currant jam and clotted cream.

No one ever seems to want to cut into them as we have other cakes and desserts anyway, so I generally let whoever wants them take them.  One lady froze one and used it at several subsequent parties as a centerpiece until an ear was knocked off.
The "grass" is simply long shred coconut dyed green with a few drops of food coloring and sprinkled with tiny candy decorations.
