Oh Dear - What a Morning.
« on: December 12, 2011, 01:28:28 am »
Went to my fridge this morning to get out the bread flour.  Standing next to it was a brand new bottle of Sundried Tomatoes in oil, which just happened to jump off the shelf and onto the floor all by itself.

What a mess, glass, tomatoes and lots of goopy oil spread everywhere.  Where to start ???.  Goose walked out to the laundry and removed my very oily Crocs, straight into a sink of hot water.  Then back into the house via the back door, to go into the bedroom, to get another pair of clean Crocs, so that I could start cleaning floors.  Used a 1/2 roll paper towels, very carefully, so as not to get glass shards in the hand.  Picked up all the bits I could find, and the tomatoes, and put them into a supermarket plastic bag, and continued wiping.

Yep, there had to be a hole in the bag, Murphy's Law.  So cleaned the worst of that up again.  Thank heavens I have a container of rather toxic but very effective on grease, cleaner and sprayed it on as the floor was really slippery.

Finally got my bread made (don't know how it will turn out) and made breakfast for myself.  Poured milk over my toasted muesli, picked up the bowl and managed to throw half of that on the kitchen floor as well.

I think I should go back to bed.
Cheers, Nola.

Oy, what a mess that must have been.

For future reference, I keep a large supply of corn starch (I think you call it maize corn flower) on hand.  Sprinkled on spilled oil, it will absorb a lot of it and make the cleanup easier.
I drop handfuls on spilled oil on my tile floor and then I can scrape up most of the mess with a dustpan.  If you get oil on carpet, deposit a small pile of corn starch on it and allow it to set for an hour or so then vacuum it up.

Andie, thanks for the tip, I'm sure it is one that we will all need to use at some stage.

Oh Nola, what a morning.  Funny how things just pop out of a cupboard or fridge without human interference  ;)
You can probably laugh at it now (as we did, sorry) but at the time it would have been very unfunny. I hope the rest of your day is much better  :-*

Oh dear Nola, I often have those mornings (sometimes days as it goes on all day). I hope your day improves.

I find the jars get very slippery from the oil and was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or a solution.

Yes, I am laughing now, it was my own silly faulty.  But as for the day getting better, my bread rolls are heavy, so not a good start.  I did think the dough was a bit firm.  Maybe I should have let them rise for longer.  Never mind, Another day, another recipe :-))
Cheers, Nola.

Nola it's overcast and going to storm so I'd go back to bed if I were you. ;)

I accidently knocked over a bottle of port I had bought at Curtin Springs just east of Ayers Rock on our trip. It was called '&**% Good Port'. I hadn't opened it. When it broke it went under everything on the floor in the pantry. Ugh.

Thanks Marina. I didn't really think I was. We bought it for the name and had planned to sit around a campfire and drink it. (all 3 bottles - I hope not) The friends with us still have theirs so if I want to I can taste theirs.

Haha thanks for giving me a laugh Nola! ;D ;D ;D We had a bit of a mishap this morning too, but with honey! Somebody hadn't put the lid on properly( nobody owned up) and all over the counter top, chair, 7 year olds pj's and legs and floor! I said, don't you dare move and stripped him down. Amazing where you find it after you think you've cleaned it up isn't it???
