One last thing CornishCream, taste-wise, what is it like (I know you're not eating it but it would be interesting to get some feedback on the difference of taste compared to a traditional cake...)?
I will have a taste tonight and report back ;)
I wish you could share it with all of us CC, it looks so tasty.  Oh well, maybe I will have to make 1, or 2, or 3 or 4 - can't think of anyone to give the starter to that would be prepared to follow it through to the end.
I wish I could as well JD :-*
If you do make it, maybe GS can take the starters into the office for the girls, how could they refuse his gorgeous face :D :D
Excellent, he's all done. Looks fantastic CC. I bet he smells good too ;D
Thank you so much for the detailed process.
Now we understand clearly what needs to be done. I'm going to start my own Herman. The only thing I'm concerned about is it pretty cold here in Tassie at the moment. Might wait a couple more weeks when we have the fire going all the time and the house is nice an warm all day.
Thanks Dede.We have the central heating going at the moment so Herman was kept warm ;D

Had a small piece tonight. ;D It's beautifully moist and has a very open texture..The downside is that's it very sweet.Maybe it's because I added chocolate chips rather than dried fruit :-\
DH said it had very interesting flavours and textures,he also added that the sugar sprinkled on the top gave it a caramel flavour.
DS really enjoyed it but didn't realize there was walnuts in it :-))
Thank you friends for all your comments and encouragement whilst making Herman,I'm so glad you enjoyed the journey with me.Hopefully some of you will be inspired to make a Herman to share with your friends.
I just love this forum ;D

This is a great thread, CC.  Are you keeping part of Herman to carry on the next generation, or are you "Herman'ed" out?

Thanks for seeing it through to the end for us - such good fun watching him change and grow day by day.

Thankyou CC, it has been a fun 10 days. The spirirt of Herman has touched us all here at the forum without having been given a starter portion. My Herman is only up to day 5 and I can't wait to give away starters to three friends and bake a cake.

Thanks CC, missed the middle part of the process as we had the GC to stay.  Would like to have a go. Think I must first decide who I can give the 'babies' to.

:o  Nearly forgot about Herman until I checked the posts here!! I went off to Albany yesterday, fed him before I left, but forgot to stir him today.  :D
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

Neglected child!  :o :o :o

Thanks CC and your DH for this thread - my DH and I have really enjoyed reading it each day. I'm going to try this too, I think probably later in the year when I have more people around as I think I will be baking all 4 cakes and passing the cakes on lol

I think I have a fatality. No bubbles - just flat.
I'm trying some life saving measures, Herman is sitting on a warm water bottle.
I hope day 7 isn't his last.   :( :( :(
