About to take the Thermi plunge - I feel nervous!
« on: April 23, 2012, 10:11:00 pm »
Hello Everyone

I'm a stay at home Mum/house wife of two little ones 3 yr boy and 10 mth girl
Have known about the Tmx for a while now - I live an additive free lifestyle as much as possible
and heard all about how awesome this little beast of a machine was for additive free cooking!

So i had a demo last Friday and was very excited! Loved it
I have the go ahead to buy it and emailed my consultant BUT NOW I'M NERVOUS!

I have never spent this amount of money on myself (well for the family but really for me)
I just worry about always having to get out a recipe book every time i need to cook
I suppose i'm just so used to conventional cooking - Does this make sense  ???

Looking fwd to making pizza bases, indian cooking, making bread, risotto and custard!!

And trying new recipes of course xx

Please assure me everything will be sweet!!!

Hi Harper, don't panic, you will soon fall in love with your TM and never ever look back. I have never regretted my purchase for even 1 second (and that's really true)
I use it every day (15 months owned) and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if something happened to mine.
There is so much information and recipes and help on this forum you will never feel alone. We all encourage each other to try new things.
Hope you receive your TM soon.
:)

Hi Harper - and a very warm welcome to the forum.  You'll love it it here - no end of tips and advice from some very understanding and friendly people.  I can quite understand your feelings of nervousness.  I think there have been very very few of us who didn't feel the way you do at the moment when we've tried to weigh up whether or not to buy or actually gone ahead and were waiting for delivery.

I recently saw the charming movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, where (if you don't know the story) a group of British retirees who, for their very own different reasons, travel to India to live in what has been advertised as a TDF luxurious hotel. (It turns out that it is a little less luxurious than advertised - but that's another story).  In it, on the train in India and heading toward their destination, Judi Dench turns to travelling companion, Tom Wilkinson, as says simply, "Do you think we will be alright?"  He responds " . . . . I'm more frightened than you are . ." then thinks, turns and smiles and says emphatically, . ." No . . it will be extraordinary!!"   And it certainly was!! :D

Obviously, I  enjoyed this lovely "feel good"  movie, but there are so many people on here who will also agree that your TMX journey will be just that . . .extraordinary!!  As you use it and your confidence grows, you won't be always looking at the recipe cards or cookbooks!

Good luck! - and do let's know how your doing.  Any problem at all, just pop it on here and you'll get quick and friendly supportive answers!! :D

Thank you xx

Great story!

I just hope my son eats what i make from it - he is so used to meat and veg
and hates creamy, mash and other rice dishes

he does love my chunky veg, lentil and barley soup but he is hard to please

Hi Harper, welcome to the forum.  Don't worry, everything will be sweet and having to follow recipe books is not hard, you will need to do that in the early days but may be able to just do your own thing later once you get the chopping and cooking times down pat.  I do so many different recipes that I have to use books & printouts as I never do any recipe that many times that I know what I am doing off the top of my head - apart from steaming vegies. Just remember, do read the recipe very carefully as lots of mistakes can be made if you don't  :-))  Enjoy your TMX and this forum - they go hand in hand beautifully and you will wonder what you did pre-TMX days.

Hi Harper, welcome. Just make sure you keep looking at the forum, it's make you get so much more use out of the TMX and even if your children don't like the food to begin with they eventually will, or as in this house we find things the TMX is great for but don't use it for everything as we like the flavour and texture of some dishes cooked the traditional way but we still use the TMX at least once a day everyday.

This will be a lifestyle change that you will never ever regret. I love my Thermomix, I use it it at least 3 times a day, I makes food preparation, fast, fun and free of the nasties we so often encounter with prepackaged foods. Enjoy !!
Ive set myself a challenge to cook 1000 different recipes in a year (see the link below) and its been a breeze!!

Welcome to the forum and enjoy cooking especially with your little ones. I couldn't survive without my TM as I also have young kids and work part time. You'll be amazed at all the new recipes you'll be doing. Congratulations and your plunge will be well worth it.

Welcome Harper. The way you are feeling is something that most of us experienced. It is a lot of money. Don't expect miracles too soon. Try some of the tried and true recipes from the forum. As mentioned feel free to ask any questions on here, there is always someone who can help.
You may find that you will be able to get your 3 year old to help you make some things, eg soup and muffins etc. Hopefully then he will love them because he has made them.
Best wishes with your new purchase.
