Too many yummy recipes!!! Too many forgotten recipes!!!!
« on: May 05, 2012, 12:18:55 am »
A strange dilema. There are too many yummy things to make.

Had a little free time yesterday & started to go through reviews of the books we have. I found a few I had written & wrote great reviews on.

Now why havent I made them again?? I think I just forget about them and of course cook new recipes.

How does eveyone track their absolute favs so they dont get forgotten.

My mission is to make one of these recipes each week & maybe create a file or something for these outstanding recipes.

Any suggestions? Or am I the only person who forgets yummy recipes.

Your right Halex, there are far to many great recipes. I don't have many recipe books. Most of my recipes come from here or the net somewhere. I print out what I like the sound off and put them in a folder. Once I have tried them I will either keep them or throw them away if no good :)
I don't have a great filing system but it works pretty well.

Hally, I sit here and go through and print off recipes every day.

I then try them, and file in a folder with clear plastic sleeves.
I have 3 folders, mains,  baking biscuits / cakes, entrees.

I also joined Pepperplate.com to save recipes from taste.

I mainly revisit recipes when I am having visitors and want something tried and true for them or I'm in a hurry and just want to whip up a meal.  I have my box of tried and liked recipes and for the books, I write every recipe I do from them in the very back of the book (there is usually a bank page back there). If I didn't like the recipe it will get a cross otherwise I know it was OK.  Variety is the spice of life and because there are so many recipes to try, I like having something different most of the time.

I am trying to stay environmentally friendly & be paperless, but its not working.

I put recipes into evernote, maybe I need to create a file on their for the best recipes, plus a file for cookbook recipes.

My problem is I make a recipe, love it make it twice then forget about it. Of course I have my basic everday ones that ds likes, but ones that I have done for DH & I  dont get redone.

I think I am going to have to work hrough my tm recipe books & create a file on them in evernote. I like the dea of writing at the back of the book but I am funny about my recipe books, i get upset if food is splattered on them, let alone writing on them.

Need to really think this one out as I am not re-cooking amazing recipes.

This week I am going to do the Almond chicken from dinner spinners, apparantly I loved it.

I have this problem as well, I've made some really great recipes off this forum and cannot remember what they are.  I really must get organised with some sort of system.  I tried one of the electronic cook books, but felt it didn't really work too well for me.

next time we go to the park for a get together, I will bring my spiral bound book of favourite recipes to show you. It takes up less room than a lever arch file, and I use it every day.

With the TMX recipes, it goes on Evernote...if i make it more than once and is a keeper, goes in living cookbook. For recipes from books I have discovered putting removable 3M tabs with the name of recipe on the top of  the page works a treat.

My mum always said to me to note any recipe you cook out of 5 and write it or type it on the recipe so you have your own rating systm a to if it was great just mediocre or terrible.. Woks for me and with things like evernote you can categorize any one ripe seval times ie one recipe could be moroccon, chicken, om such and such a cookbook and number 5 rating.. I have started linking existing recipes into cookbook names or recipe author names as well.. Just makes it so much more organised and easier to find .. Anyway works for me..

Newbie here. I print recipes off the internet and if a recipe is a success I copy it onto my Excel template (large print, my eyes aren't what they used to be!) I laminate it and put in one of my magazine racks, I have one for mains, desserts, baking etc. When I'm stuck for ideas I pull out my laminated pages and choose one. I can wipe the page if it gets dirty in the kitchen. Works for me.

Ella, does Excel work better than Word?

Cuilidh,

I'm useless with Word but advanced with Excel - thus my choice. Copying all recipes into my template makes them all look uniform and easy to follow and I can make my own adjustments to suit my taste. Normally when I cook something new we all have an input into it and decide there and then what needs changing - provided it was something worthwhile cooking it again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times but normally I end up with something everybody enjoys.
