I have had so much fun with the free Kindle app, you can download every book and magazine you have ever purchased for free and read them on the iPad. The many image/photo editing apps are great also  :) Siri app saves lots of time as it understands what you say, you are able to talk to Siri as you would to a person, it does what you say (without the argument or justification - ha, ha) you can find the information you need and Siri then answers you. It’s like you’re having a conversation with your iPhone and after all this I realised that this thread is apps for iPad not the iPhone - oh well now you have more irrelevant info  :D

A couple of hints for new ipad owners  :)
Touch the black strip at the very top to get to the top of the page when viewing anything - great for reading the forum.
Double click home button to show recent apps and the scroll to the right in that strip at the ottom to lock orientation, change brightness and volume.
Slide your whole hand at the side of the screen to go back to the previous few apps you were on.
Flick your finger from the top corner of the calendar to move between month views, similar to lifting a page on a calendar
Hit the number key on the key pad to show the undo button if you need to undo typing or deleting.

I can highly rec comend "paprika" recipe app
My friends and I have it we have a rule when u add a recipe you email  it to every one.

Very easy to add recipes via email or adding your own, you can browse the web and add recipe directly in the the app, I have downloaded heaps of different recipe apps and I think this is the best for storing recipes. I use it daily.
Cheers

This thread is GREAT!  I've found out about Evernote, that I'd never heard of and now paprika!

Brill.  I like my ipad more and more every day.  I have a Kindle but downloaded Kindle for my ipad too.  WOW, all those recipe books that aren't worth getting in black and white on the Kindle - fab on the Kindle reader on the ipad.  Also means I can read in the dark as I don't have a light on my Kindle.  Of course, come the Summer, (I'm writing from the Northern Hemisphere ....) the Kindle will come into its own again :)

Ok cookie1. Are you downloading the app from itunes? If downloading a  mag app you then have to download the monthly or weekly mag after. Downloading  app does not download the mag necessairly.

I have not had to do this but i would         Go to itunes and download the app.  If you think you have stuffed up then touch and hold the app until it shakes and shows the X then touch the X to delete and start again.

Say nothing to no one. If that doesn't work then pm me and I will help you.  i'll phone you so give me your number.

i feel your pain.

I think Wonder has solved the problem for me. The wifi isn't that strong here and I'm sure that's it. I know I have my netbook drop out quite frequently. I'll take it with me and have a coffee out tomorrow and I should be able to download it that way. Our mobiles give better coverage outside too so perhaps I'll go and sit in the caravan. It may have something to do with our tin roof.
Thanks Gretchen I'll try with a better signal, otherwise I'll ask for your much appreciated help. :-* :-*

I'm curious about this, do you really mean that if you've bought hard copies of books on Amazon that it allows you to download a digital version of that book? I tried searching on Amazon for more info, but no luck. I recently bought a hard copy of the Flavor Bible, and I was about to buy the digital version for my Tab, but read this thread in the interim, and want to investigate more before spending $.

Thanks

You can buy a screen protector that just wipes off  or you could get a stylus but then you would be getting that dirty too.

I use the chefs stand for I pad and a protector on the screen. Yes it gets  a bit dirty but no problem to wipe clean.

Courton you can't use LCB with your iPad (or Mac or anything grrr) unfortunately as it is a "windows" program ... I have had to put VM Ware on my Macbook to be able to run it. I wouldn't have bothered but I already had over a 1000 recipes in it when I bought the Macbook and I could just do a data transfer (much easier and quicker than trying to get them into another program :()

Yippee and much more yelling and carry on. I have downloaded the magazine while I am waiting for DD at the dentist. We're off shopping afterwards. I had to get on here and yell about it. The strength of the signal is poor in the house, we have trouble with the phones too. Sitting here I have full strength and the magazine downloaded no problems and in a very short time too.
I'm amazed at all the extras that are in the magazine for iPads. (BBC Good Food). Off to read it some. I love the keyboard on the iPad too, it is so sensitive. YIPPEE AND WOWEE AND YEAH.

Pleased to hear that it all went well for you in the end cookie. I have just tethered my iPad and iPhone for some strange reason m y iPad keeps dropping out on our home wifi, have ordered a new one from bigpond. Free of charge since I complained when they wanted to charge me $90.00 for a new one. Love the fact that you don't have to be online to read the magazines once they have been  downloaded. Just bought myself an iTunes card. What to spend it on? What are my must have app?

We don't have wifi through out the house. Just the main broadband. DD is looking for a router to put on it or whatever. Can you get them from bigpond jeninwa?
Our  wifi on the ipad and my netbook drops out at home too. The signal just isn't very strong. Even our mobiles have poor signal and you have to go outside sometimes. If DD puts a router onto the broadband then it will be great for the netbook and ipad.

This week Coles has itunes cards at 20% off. DD and I both bought one.

Title: Re: iPad apps
Post by: gertbysea on January 08, 2012, 12:27:19 am
Oh o jd :-)) :-)) :P

Mine is in my hand, beside me, in my handbag. In other words it is connected to me at all times. Pathetic I am but you just NEED to have it to look up things as you see or read them. If I am reading the book section of a mag and I like the sound of it I immediately go to my iPad to check on the Kindle price. If I am watching a movie and cannot remember the actors name I go to my iPad. If I am out and about and I see something unusual or a beautiful tree or a scene I take out my iPad and take a photo or movie of it. I never use my cell phone and in fact do not even remember the number. I can message my daughter to her iPhone for nix. I can answer emails immediately and I can look at this forum more often without having to go to my laptop. I use it when shopping to check on prices at other stores and when food shopping I can check a recipe for ingredients.

I know I know. Everyone thinks I am nuts but I love it and it saves arguments with my DH about who what where or when. I can instantly seek an answer. Hooked I am poor sad me. >:(

When I have to wait anywhere I can whip it out do something or I whip out my Kindle and read a chapter. That too  is always by my side even thought I can read my books on the iPad. The Kindle touch is  small enough to read with one hand when waiting in a queue.

I love that I can take small movies and send them immediately . I love that I can share it with others as when I was in the middle of the Mekong recently and  a Guy's phone broke down, he was able to use my iPad to send an email and check on an emergency at home and was able to see a photo of same sent back right away.

We are certainly an INSTANT society. Not only the kids but I wanna be part of that too. Who knows how much time I have left!!!!!

In any case you know you don't need one but if ya want it and can afford it why not have it. Gee I think that was my argument in flavour of the TMX.

Thanks Gerty, good review of the iPad if ever I read one  :D :D
It sounds to me though that you don't even need a computer but then the iPad doesn't print  - or does it somehow ???
You are so much more tech savvy than me though and I can understand that if you know exactly what you are doing, it is great.  I would probably still only use it for forum use  :-))  Still got my thinking cap on about this one. :-*

As a recent ipad convert I LOVE IT! Everything said about the ipad is all true. However, you do need the computer for typing details... too awkward with ipad. Checked out ability to print but apparently you need a separate app to connect it to our wifi. Won't bother. You will not regret the purchase JD!!!
Title: Re: iPad apps
Post by: gertbysea on January 08, 2012, 01:36:05 am
Yup it can print as well because we have an air printer but I do a lot less printing than I used to as I can just call up anything any time. I do have to remember what it is I want to look up though. LOL! I have not printed a recipe since I bought the thing. No need as it is always to hand.

I know a real estate agent who runs his business with his iPhone and iPad. He can even get  contracts  signed instantly with his business applications.  Amazing products.

Let me tell you that you would not regret having one and you do not need to be tech savvy to use it as it is very intuitive. I did however buy the iPad for dummies before I got it. And remember that you have come a long way with using the computer in the past two years my friend .

I don't listen to music on it nor do I do any face talking but those are a couple of other things you can do with it.

Grechen I think you like your ipad. :P I loved reading about it. One day I hope to be like you in the use of it. I have the use of DD's during the day so at the moment won't be getting my own. That is until it goes to work with her.
I discovered this morning (when it kept going 'bing') that she is playing Words with Friends (scrabble) with a friend from work. It 'bings' when the other person has had their turn.
I love the magazines on it. I discovered the Zinio app with all the magazines. Even TMX ones, although they are in Spanish. (I think)
I will definitely get one when I don't have access to this one. I love sitting playing sudoku or monopoly in front of TV at night. Sad story isn't it?

Oh yes, I love the keyboard on it. So easy to use. Yesterday I carried the ipad and the ereader with me, not heavy at all. ;)

One other thing Judy is that I missed the first episode of Singled Handed on  TV last night but I can watch it on my iPad now using the free ABC  iView app. And not to change the subject but have you seen Helene's latest?

Hi Guys. I promised I would do this a couple of weeks ago but I was way too busy having holidays - my apologies, but now I am back at work and have little to do I thought I better get onto this.  ;)

First let me say I absolutely love my Ipad. Apart from the TMX it is the best investment we have ever made. I take it everywhere and use it all day long. A bit like Gert. Addicted!!!  I got mine when they first came out so paid way way too much (they are now 1/2 the price) and mine doesnt have a camera and is a little bulky. The newer version is much better i'm told. But I still love it nonetheless.

I wont list them all off as I have hundreds, but I have all of my apps in Folders for ease of use.

Eg.

Productivity - Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Maps, Settings, Postcode Search, Calculator
Lifestyle - Ebay, Domain, xe Currency Convertor, Australia Post, All the Deals, Aus TV & Movie Guide
Books - ibooks, Audio Books, Perfect Reader, Free Books, Kindle, itranslate
Games with Friends - Words with Friends, hanging with Friends, Bejewled 2, Romi, Jumbline 2
Social - Facebook, Twitter, Skype, You Tube
Games - lots !
Kid Stuff - for the nieces :)
Cooking - ABC Foodi, All recipes AU, Big Oven, Betty Crocker Cookbook, Poh's Kitchen, Epicurious, Harvey Norman Recipe Organiser, Jamie Oliver
Cookbooks - AWW, Robo Gourmet, Dinner Spinner, Thermomix
etc etc

I also have a folder called healthy cooking with icons to all of my favourite web pages and blogs such as this wonderful forum, Janella Purcell, Full Little Tummies, Real Meals, Steph Berg, My New Roots, etc etc

I pretty much have an app for everything! Love it love it love it!

Ive posted a pic so you can see the folders :)

Thank you so  much for that. I went mad on my one third of an ipad and downloaded a few things related to cooking. Now you have suggested some more I might do the same today. We already have quite a few of your suggestions already. DD is playing Words with Friends with people all over the world. It truly amazed me. Judy this is basically Scrabble.

Wow  :o just a few there lisa!

I finally went to the Telstra shop yesterday and picked up my  free sim. It's now activated but when I checked the balance on line it only said 3gig. I rang and the guy I spoke to couldn't apologise enough and gave me an extra gig!  I now have 6 gig to use up in 30 days.    :o.

Will take it out tomorrow to see what it's like but just playing with it at home it appears to be as fast as our ADSL 2.  The real test for me will be when we go down the coast in a couple of weeks.

As for apps, I haven't gone down that road too much yet but I'm sure there will be some that will interest me.

DH got his iPad in just 1 day from Apple and he is completely in love with it too. We put off for so long getting them but don't regret it at all.  :)

lisaarnold, don't worry about the thought that you paid too much, I've bought both the first and second ipad within a day of their release and they were almost exactly the same price. I sold my first one on ebay the day I got my hands on the second one and got 80% of the original price. As far as I've been able to tell the price reduction between the two models was only about 10% which is nothing when you think about how much you have used it.

Wonder ,  we also have used the Apple store and the young people are now like family.  Nothing is too much trouble for them,  and do we hit them with some funny problems.  We have heard that a new one is coming out in April/May.  Judy go to the Apple shop and have a good play with the ones that they have available.  This is what the kids do.  Every time you touch it you learn something new.

Hardly Normal is just that , appaling service and staff with no knowledge. I wonder that anyone shops there.

I bought my iPad on line from the US and it arrived before my local Apple franchise had a clue it was even available in Australia . Excellent service.  If I had  a real Apple store in Cairns I would deal with them.

http://macintoshhowto.com/iphone/how-to-find-the-best-telstra-plan-for-an-iphone.html

I don't know about Vodaphone as it it all but useless up here in Cairns? I don't have an iPHONE but I know others tether successfully with their Telstra accounts.  Other countries will depend on their carriers and their plans .

It's as easy as Plugging your phone into your iPad with your USB port and adjusting  your settings on your iPhone. You can use it with blue tooth as well.

I am sure others here have already done this and can further enlighten us.

Frozzie, i've successfully tethered to a friends iphone, he simply sat it close by my ipad and i went into settings and you should then be able to see a list of wifi connections, the phone ones will have a different symbol beside them. you should just be able to select the correct one and then enter the password when asked. Sorry I can't give more detailed instructions but don't have it with me and can't remember exactly what each screen is called or what they looked like.

Johnro, that's because your iPhone would have been searching for networks the whole time. I have that problem when I drive to Busselton and am out of 3G range for a while.

I'm looking at buying an iPad (again) and selling my MacBook (again) but am still uncertain about whether to get just the wi-fi or the wi-fi 3G. If I get the 3G, I'll cancel the contract I have with my iPhone as I won't need to use the internet on the iPhone.

BUT, can I update my iPhone apps through iTunes on the iPad? Can I charge my iPhone through my iPad? I'm searching for these answers online, but can't find any.  :-)) You guys who have them are way more helpful! ;D

Thanks faffa. I've been doing some more research and have spoken to a friend with a iPad. I can't connect iPhone to iPad except through bluetooth, but it doesn't matter as I have iTunes on my PC and can update the iPhone through that.

I'm planning to buy one now. I'm just going to check out covers first. I'll probably get the 32Gb wireless 3G and will organise a plan through BigPond. I think there's a $30 per month with about 10Gb. I'll cancel the plan on the iPhone as I won't need that any more.

Just bought it! Free delivery and engraving from Apple store, so I went with them. Got a Switch Easy case from techbuy.com,au.
Now will have to wait until it arrives to organise a plan. We're going away tomorrow, but back on weekend, then off away again, then back for an 80th! So hard to fit our holidays in!

So, at least I'll be able to pick it up when I'm home and take it back on holidays!

MJ be sure to go into a Telstra shop for the good advice remembering that the iPad is not a phone nor is it a computer. You may be wanting to use your phone more on the 3G network and your iPad more on the wifi network. I would think you would still need to have your iPhone on the 3G network.

In any case let us know and maybe I will buy an iPhone.  You can get the Telstra data plan for the iPad for $150 for 12 months with 12 GB.

I have three covers, one is the magnetic cover which protects the front which i use at home, one is  a cover for travelling which protects all the edges  and one which is very thin, protects the edges and means I can fit it I my handbag. The last is an  STM. All three make a stand.  All of them were around $40.

Thanks for the advice Gretchen! My closest Telstra shop is 200km away, but I'm going to try to get there sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I rarely use the internet on my iPhone, that's why I think I'll can it. I don't want to have 3 plans - $80 p.m. for home, $10 p.m. for iPhone and another $20 or so per month for iPad!
That $150 plan looks excellent.

I looked at the Belkin one with the keyboard, but the reviews said it was too bulky. I may look at it later on once I've had my iPad for a while. I liked the look of the magnetic cover and could have got it from the Apple store, but I ended up with the Switch Easy one because it's also magnetic, but protects the back as well and doesn't make the whole thing too bulky.

Now, I'm going to have to buy a bigger handbag! I use a really small one that also acts as a purse because otherwise I find that my bag is so full of stuff it gets too heavy to cart around. I'll have to find one that's big enough for my iPad and my little bag.
Title: Re: iPad apps
Post by: gertbysea on January 15, 2012, 06:13:42 am
Yup I get ya. I had to take  my iPad and my Kindle to a store to find the right backpack style handbag to fit them in. I never have my iPad out of my sight and is usually on my back leaving my hands free for the real shopping. If I want my iPad in the grocery store no problems. I have always had a backpack style bag. Not elegant or  stylish but imminently practical for a 65 year old. I  despair when I see women with bags over their shoulders and opened with their purses and phones  readily available or left in shopping trolleys  while they search up and down for stuff. Sometimes I might even mention it to them if I see a purse creeping out of an unzippered bag.  Ok some places are safer than others but I know my excess on insurance is not gunna cover my iPad. I value it so I look after it.

And ki have  to say that Cairns is not one of the safest cities I have lived in. Theft in this tourist town is rife.

If you get your iPhone on a plan for  $10 a month then you are  laughing.  Oh how I wish my old phone would DIE!. I would then buy an IPhone and have the sim card cut down to use I the iPhone. Like you I could then use it in my $10 plan with Telstra but mainly use the iPad for stuff as I rarely use or need the phone.  JB Hi Fi and others have a device that can take your old sim card and cut it to fit the iPhone therefore negating negotiations with Telstra re the very expensive plans.

I put this idea to a Telstra guy and he said it could not be done but I know it can. I ain't buying one of the "plans".

I hear of some outrageously expensive phone plans that just about take my breath away. All I want is  a cheapie but I WOULD buy an iPhone outright on my $10 a month plan  just so I could sync it with my iPad.  I just love gadgets that work seamlessly.

Having said that I cannot justify getting rid of my rarely used phone for an iPhone..........YET!

Love the ipad and iphone. Love kindle, ibooks, Evernote, banking and have recently discovered menu_planner (website http://menu-planner.com/ (http://menu-planner.com/)) . I posted some details in another another menu planning topic on this forum. The menu planner allows easy import of recipe from select websites (and soon to be all websites so Thermomix recipe communities as well, and hopefully the forum). It has easy shopping lists, pantry lists, recipes and the menu plan. Finally a menu planning app that's easy to use and syncs between my i products and desktop.

Not sure  but  my plan is $10  a month. An I phone is maybe $500 so over 24 months it would cost  $240 plus  $500 so $740 . .@ $49 times 24 is a lot more.  In any case I am doing nothing until I need to.

If u put iCloud on one of ur apple devices it uploads all the same apps to each device.  For example if you download kindle onto ur iPhone it will automatically go to ur iPad, iPod.  You cannot as far as I know sync these except to a pc to get ur latest versions of the platform progs that run ur device.  Does that make sense.  I haven't synced my iPad or iPhone for ages and am dreading the new versions that have come out to update  - its going to take ages :-)). I'm pretty sure about the iCloud thing as afta I downloaded it all new apps I acquired appeared on my phone, iPad and ipod ;D.  I just would love a MacBook now but got a "regular" laptop to keep the continuity for the kids to work on between school and home.  For those obsessed about angry birds you have to download Where's my Water ( a crocodile who lives in the sewers and requires water to shower. - we are all hooked on it. :-*

A couple of months ago my DS (16) brought a iPhone 3 from a friend for $50 because it had a broken screen, we got the screen replaced for $50 and it was a s good as new again. He sold that iPhone  and recently brought a iPhone 4 for $150 from another friend because it has a broken screen and we are about to have the screen fixed for $80. Pretty good buy. I don't think people realize that broken screen on these gadgets don't cost a lot to have replaced if you know where to go.

A broken screen isn't the end of the phone, that's for sure.

Gretch, I meant the internet part of my phone plan is $10 a month. I actually pay $50 a month which entitles me to unlimited  free calls to any Telstra phone. I bought my iPhone outright. This is a business plan as we have three mobiles and two home phones on the account, plus our home internet. I also pay an extra $5 a month for 100 texts.

I can only use Telstra, as they're the only service providers in the bush. When I go to the Telstra shop, I'm planning to get a better deal as I only get 6Gb a month for my $80 on the home computer.

There is a new Thermomix app called cooking with the super chef and it's free to download but then you have to pay for more recipe categories. I downloaded it today but found it pretty slow. Not sure if I would bother buying extra recipes or not. I'm pretty stingy lol.

My other favorite apps are

Documents
Coloring (for the kids)
Art maker (ABC play school) for kids
Gum tree
Big oven
Facebook
eBay
Woolworths

A new phone is a pretty good option though!

We've had screens replace on Nokia phones at those little kiosks in shopping centres - Carousel etc. The Nokia screen only cost $20. Not sure if they do iPhones though.

Can't wait to get my iPad so I can download all those wonderful apps that everyone's talking about!

When we upgraded our Iphone recently I paid an extra $99 for extended apple warranty. This extended the warranty to the end of the Telstra contract and includes one free screen replacement. I figured it was worth it since a new screen is at least $150 in Perth.

We have never broken a screen yet but DD the younger has twice.

Dede I like the woolworths app too.  It is really well thought out and has the potential to make shopping easy.

I do use it but  my favourite app at the moment is 7 words, a very addictive little game where you get clues and you have to find the answers amongst the given letters. I find it very hard to stop playing it at times!

Post by: cookie1 on January 17, 2012, 06:09:50 am
DD uses words with friends and she plays with people all over the world. 7 words sounds like fun. I love sudoku and even monopoly. I made my first item from the ipad today. They look good and will post the recipe if they taste as good. I had to make some marzipan and apricot jam to go with them. ;)

I've just downloaded my February edition of BBC Good Food too. I do love the way it is presented.

I've actually bought the full version of Words with Friends as I play it a lot and got really sick of all the adds. I've been playing it for months now with a couple of friends. I find it really addictive. I've always got a couple of games on the go.
I tried hanging with friends too, but I much prefer Words with Friends.
I also like Word Warp and Boggle.
Mind you, since I joined the forum I've spent all my free time reading the posts here instead of playing word games. However, I've still managed to keep playing Words with Friends,

I'm a total sucker for 7 little words. I have pretty much bought all the levels so far and whenever the kids go to bed, I do my word games as I don't really watch much TV in the evening at all as there's a huge amount of shows currently on TV that don't interest me. If I'm not doing word games I'm invariably reading cookbooks at night- my bedside table is groaning under the weight of my pile of cookbooks already. Between my cookbooks, this forum and work I'm almost thinking about what to cook or actually cooking food most of the day!!! The power of thermie to alter your mind!!!!

You can also get the iTV app to watch some shows on the ABc like Whites which I am enjoying very much. A bit of a spoof on Marco Pierre White. All happening in his kitchen and restaurant. Very funny.

Now what is a 9 letter word for super kitchen machine?😌

I find it easier to pick up my iPad and read a few pages of a book than a real book. My iPad sits on my kitchen bench and I open it up to read while I'm waiting for something to come to boil, or while having a cuppa.

I downloaded Paprika today and that's an excellent app. I guess the only thing I do dislike is having to use Safari. It's slow and clunky compared to Mozilla Firefox.

I don't buy clothes that need ironing any more. Those that still do go in the dryer to be ironed!!

Thanks for that site Marina. I just had to laugh at this one:

The Perfect Egg Timer, $1.99

iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android

FIRST, measure your goog - place it on your phone and use your fingers to mark the egg's diameter and height. Next, set your altitude. What? Don't worry, the GPS does it for you. Set the slider on a scale from ''fridge'' to ''room temperature'', then choose ''the perfect egg for me'': liquid, soft or hard. The timer is set to go. More instructions say to put eggs in cold water, bring water to a rapid boil and when the water boils, start the timer. The ''egg spy'' camera shows how the inside of the egg changes as it's cooking. Bingo. Perfect eggs every time. This German-made app is everything it's cracked up to be.

Seriously, is it that hard to boil an egg?

I don't know how I still manage to boil an egg without using an altimeter!  Also, how could anyone possibly have time to measure an egg's diameter and height plus enter all the data. Surely in all that time you could have boiled your egg(s) by then. ??? ??? ???

The latest app which I have found is Heytell - a voice messenger that allows you to instantly talk — lets you send instant voice messages to other heytell users - a kinder, gentler, warmer alternative to text messaging  :)  :)

I use Voice Audio for sending voice message on the iPad.  A few of my friends use it as well as it is inbuilt on the iPhone. Easy as. Works for sending to any PC as well as I products.

I think you can send easily about  7 minutes at time from the iPhone and endless from the iPad.

Heytell certainly does not allow messages of any great length go through Gert - will need to use Voice Audio more then.  :)  :)

Actually cookie 1 voice mail has  been  around a long time. I think I first used it on my first Gateway computer  more than 20 years ago. I had a microphone on a stick and I was amazed.i recorded a song I still use today for my birthday mail. It is the Happy Birthday song from  a kiddy program on TV though I cannot remember the name of it. I think it was live on the ABC.  Not play school but............

Dede I think we all sound weird to our self when we hear our own voice recorded.  It has something to do with the resonance of our sinuses and the connection to our ears. Anyone else hearing your voice recorded would think it sounds just like you.

Pesonally I hate the sound of my voice when I hear it recorded.

DW and I have found a great app (thanks to our doctor) that helps you track calories. It is called MyFitnessPal.  I have never been any good at tracking meals/calories becuase it take too long ot look it up nad write it down.  This app is available for Iphone and Android.

Once you load in your details (age, hieght, weight) set a target weight goal and how fast you want to lose it gives you a calorie amount for each day. Exercise deducts calories and food adds them. THe Iphone version even allows you to scan barcodes of products which  bringsup the product name servings size and nutritional information.

There is also the abillity to add your own recipes bu adding the ingredients and quantities and telling the app how many servings it makes. The pp then calculates the nutritional informatio for each serving.

I have been struggling to lose about 5 kilos for months and getting nowhere. I have lost a ilo in a week by just tracking what I am eating. Whne you look up some foods and realise how many calories are involved you really start to think if you really want to eat it or not.

Good app for those wanting to lose weight but it would send me crazy. It would be like the Wii Fit screaming OBESE OBESE OBESE when you weigh in. ;D

DD I love that app. Chookie put me onto it a while ago. I've been bad with birthdays etc but I love the way it gives you all the food breakdown. I found that I eat very little fat, but too much sugar which is hidden in all the foods.

Ok I know this is a really stupid question but I just downloaded Paprika since so many on the forum use it...but how do you use it. Do you copy the whole recipe from forum and then what...it does not allow you to paste it in a simple way like Evernote. Help!

If you go to the browser in Paprika and then bring up particular page on the forum that you want.  If you look at the bottom of the screen you will see buttons that say photo, ingredients, name, directions, etc...and create recipe.  Highlight each section of the recipe that you want to save and then tap the corresponding button.  Once you are done, tap create recipe and it will display the completed recipe....tap on the done button in the right top corner and the recipe is saved.

For sites like food.com and taste.com.au, you can just tap on the save recipe button that appears on the top right corner of the original browser screen.  Those sites are written in hrecipe markup language and paprika knows exactly what to do with them.

Just thought I'd mention that there is an update for paprika for the iPad now available.  Apparently they have also submitted the Mac version update as well.

I'm going into the city on Monday to get my very own ipad3. It is very exciting. I've been waiting since my birthday (April) and when we were away we found the netbook very slow compared to the ipad.

Very exciting . My DS just bought his wife  an iPad and my DGD is wanting one for her11th birthday next month and I think  she will be able to get  it. She has been saving for some time. When they move to India at the end of the year they will be home schooled so will need it. My son is  a teacher so life will not be too hard for the grand daughters aged 6 and 11.

The iPad is a great product in so many ways.

It'll be hard on you though Gert.

My daughter and her family lived in London for the first 7 years of their marriage.  It was tough only seeing them at Christmas time.  We  missed all of the baby milestones.

Thank goodness they're living in Aus now.

Yes merrilyn but a great adventure for them and inevitable  I guess. They know India quite well  as my DI lived in Mayapur for some years and they visit often.  They have mny  friends and relatives who either live there or visit so they won't be lonely .  We have our iPads for some face to face time.
